One other thing to look at -- the Serial HOWTO
(http://metalab.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO/Serial-HOWTO.html) suggests turning off
Plug & Play in the BIOS in some cases. I don't know if this would solve the
problems you're seeing, but it might be easier than changing switches on the
board.

Subject: Help with basic question
I have a modem working with windows COM3. When I boot linux I cannot seem to
interact with the modem at all. I know its on cua2 and the address and irq
match the windows settings per setserial however the UART came up initially
as unknown but I set that to 16550A although windows shows it to be
something like NR 16550A N. Minicom does not seem to be able to communicate
with the modem either. Any help would be most appreciated.
