I am running RH61 w/kernel 2.2.15-2.5.0 (from rh62beta) with ppp 2.3.11-1
and I dont see these problems.

The remote system is NOT required to authenticate itself, you are.
Do you have anything in your PAP/CHAP files in /etc/ppp?

I can send you copies of my chat/ppp scripts minus critical info for you
to test out. Have you run linuxconf to set up your ppp?
