This means that pppd couldn't write to the serial port, but how to
reconcile that with...
|There is no problem connecting to other call by call ISPs like freenet
this, beats me. Unless the chat script for this ISP in munged somehow,
say, by an `\' at the end of the last line of a script on the chat command
line. (However, I don't know that that particular error would be generated
by that particular mistake.)
