It's a 30 second timeout which usually means that the pppd LCP messages
aren't getting to the peer, or the peer's messages aren't getting to pppd.
You should add the pppd option "debug" in order to see the actual PPP LCP
negotiation messages.

The default timeout should be enough, 24 hours is way off the scale of
reality.
