With my redhat 7 system the file /etc/sysconfig/harddisks can also be used
to set drive parameters. By default most (look ahead, use dma, etc) are
commented out. I have no idea if it applies to earlier RH versions or other
distros (i.e. whether it is a 'standard' linux file or not).
