Hi all
Just thought I'd update you on my progress. Once I got linux installed on an
ide drive, I "borrowed" a 2.2.5 kernel from a friend, and booted off it. It
detects my adapter and drive just fine!!
One thing is a bit strange. It paused for a moment, and got timeouts on id 4
and 5 - there are no devices with id 4 or 5
Redhat 6.0 is supposed to be coming out soon (i've heard it may be announced
on monday), which has the 2.2 kernel. If that's not coming out soon, I will
continue my upgrade path, but so far I am still downloading rpms. It seems a
number of things need upgrading before a RH5.2 machine is ready for a 2.2
kernel.
Thanks to everyone for all their help. Although my troubles are far from
over, I at least I know the hardware works fine under linux. Funny thing is
the "replacement" drive came in today - maybe I'll keep them both - you
never know when another 9gb can come in handy :)
thanks again
charles
