I've yet to try burning a CD, but I appear to have resolved
all my initial problems with the bus hang on boot by upgrading
to the 1.0g firmware (see http://www.yamahayst.com/).
I've left the default settings for the Initio 9100W controller
full synchronous transfer speed and with wide negotiation
enabled (changing these settings didn't fix the problem under
the 1.0f firmware).
I've also set the blocksize to 512 bytes (via jumper) - I couldn't
mount disks otherwise.
Now to burn some disks....
