Yes, but EXT2 is not. Had the same trouble with mine. It
would boot from floppy fine, which may or may not be a problem
but it is a pain in the neck. I've tried all of the LILO options, but
without any luck.
I finally re installed Linux before the
1024 cylinder limit, and now it works perfectly. Swap Partition
is beyond the boundry. Also have a second EXT2 file system
in the extended partiton, which works as well.

Did you try the linear option? Unfortunately it did not work
for me. My machine is not SCSI, but is UDMA66 and a very
large drive (35 gig IBM). Original BIOS was <35 gig so I
think it is a BIOS glitch or bug. I was contemplating using
my Promise UDMA 66 controller, but at the moment it is working
perfectly, so I won't mess with it, and it won't mess with me.

Good luck.

You can use a Network Attached Storage unit
which would probably make it alot easier just
mount the nat via nfs and use the same mount point
for both machines

Another option is you can have a raid
in one machine and mount it from the
other via nfs

I check the confi.modules and there was an alias line for 3c59x and also an
options line setting the IRQ
I went into the rc.local life and added the insmod and ifup line and that
seems to have fixed it.

That's just no damn good.

Another fact:
Some of the nicer CDR programs don't work with the
SONY drives, like cdclone etc....

I had a HP drive go bad. The new one was at the door
2 days later, and they even paid for shipping back the old
one!!!! But that's comparing apples to oranges.

Sorry to hear about your problem, and good luck.

Hi,

We are trying to set up XFree on an IBM ThinkPad 380XD (the specific
model is 2635-8AS).We followed the instructions in the Linux on Laptops
guide (http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/), but the
thinkpad model used there as example is the one with Active Matrix LCD
panel and we have the DualScan LCD model.

So far, we have managed to configure video in 640x480x16 but we would
like to raise video resolution to 800x600x16, for which we would need to
know the refresh frequencies to adjust the VertRefresh and HorizSync
parameters in XF86Config. We asked IBM Tech Support for that
information, but they apparently dont have that information available
(?).

Any idea where can we find that information?

Thanks in advance.

Fernando Cuenca.

Modem busy can be an IRQ conflict. Check dmesg to see what linux
sees it as. If your modem is on ttyS2 (irq4), use setserial to change it.

Hmm. My 380D works well with these values, but it's got a TFT... use
these as a base and if they work, great, if not, fiddle with them a bit.

HorizSync 31.5-37.9

Dear usenet readers!

I need to limit the maximum number of processes per real user id on
my server, I thought it had to be done by modifying
/usr/include/linux/limits.h, and changing the following line:

#define CHILD_MAX        999    /* no limit :-) */

to this one:

#define CHILD_MAX         64    /* limited now! :p */

and then recompiling the kernel...
That's what I did, I installed it, LILOed it, and rebooted the
machine, but a getconf CHILD_MAX still returns a value of 999! I suppose
there's something to do I didn't do, but what?
   I have a 2.2.16 kernel (with a Slackware distribution)...

   Thanks in advance!

And the UID/GID should be in the passwd file.

There may also be a method of adding yourself to a group that
has the needed privileges for drive access, yet isn't running at full
root. I say "may" as I only installed a cover-disk version of Mandrake7
last week -- and am working on memories of some of the config files in
AmiTCP/IP (a BSD sockets work-alike for the Amiga). What I'm thinking is
some means to separate you from any "general user" account that may be
later created.
