Easier yet, head to http://www.xig.com/Pages/DemoInstructions.html
grab the demo, and see how easy X is is with a real display server.

Go into the Windows 98 fdisk and delete as 'non-dos' partition.

Hmm ... My resolv.conf looks like this (edited slightly):

hostresorder local bind
search spots.ab.ca
nameserver 209.115.174.2
nameserver 209.115.174.3

What? I thought nsswitch.conf was for NIS. Are you running NIS?

What does glibc have to do with name server services?

I cannot belive that I am posting here, right now \using Linux.

I spent the last month suffering with Storm Linux, that came in one of
the recent mags. Heck, what could be better, but a new free OS?

Well, being a newbie, I didn't know much about Linux, except as an early
internet user. Back before WS_FTP, and when Pine was a fine mail reader.
My current ISP does not provide Pine, as they think webmail is better.
Bullshit!

I suffered with trying to get my Lucent modem working, and with getting
my Voodoo3 videocard running properly. XF4.0 was giveing me fits with
Storm, and the Lucent installer was designed around Redhat, not Debian.

Anyway, I went over to CompUSA , and picked up a copy of the standard
edition of Redhat 6.2 and installed it. XF86 3.3.6 included in 6.2
supported my V3 card out of the box, the modem driver installed with
only a little modification to the installer.

There is something to be said for using a distro that is dominant, eh?

Rob

No, libio is weird for quite a different reason; basically, to implement
sync_with_stdio and friends in the C++ iostreams library, the stdio and
iostreams have to be tied together. So the one is implmented in terms of
the other --- but this means encoding information about the mangled
names of some iostreams members into libio. So it is sensitive to
details of the mangler.

In GCC-3.0 the mangler is standardized (along with (much of) the rest of
the ABI), so this problem should get less severe.

A weird thing happened over the weekend. The wu-ftp daemon on my RH6.2 just
could not seem to authorise users anymore although it was working just fine the day
before. I had no idea what happened so I just removed and re-installed the RPM.
Then it worked. Anyone know what the heck is going on?

Thanks in advance.

I am running Slackware 7 on a 486/50 just fine. It has 32Mb of memory,
however, which may help a bit. Compiles and the like are a bit slow, but not
awful. I use it mainly as my Internet gateway.

I think you have to roll your own coding with the upcoming USB modules
for Kernel 2.4
Email Altec-Lansing to release the control codes and/or tell them to
support Linux.
More manufacturers are feeling the pressure of supporting Linux, but you
must have to speak up first.

Hi,

I have some unexpected difficulties with the 2.2.16 kernel which I've
instaled lately. Smbount does not work correctly with OS/2 Warp shares
since I started to use the new kernel. It works OK with the 2.2.15 and all
previous versions, though.

Here is the error message I get:

# mount -t smbfs -o username=xxxx,password=xxxx //warp/f /mnt/warp

smbfs: protocols older than NT1 are not suppported mount.smbfs: ioctl
failed, res=-1 Could not umount /mnt/warp: Device or resource busy

I suspect smbfs support was somehow changed in the new kernel, but I was
unable to track any information confirming this. I would be grateful for
any suggestions...
