Goodie. What ftp server is running on the linux box, wu.ftpd? What are the
permissions on httpd/ directory and who owns it (`ls -l`)?

*Ding*. Go read `man ftpusers`, try again... ;)

Hello all,
I'm looking for a Linux compatible PCI modem. Must be PCI because I'm
using it with the new Duron/Thunderbird compatible boards which DON'T
have an ISA slot. I've checked the modem knowledge base at:
http://www.kcdata.com/~gromitkc/20000716a.html
But holy cow nothing seems to be turning up. Can anyone help me shop
for this? Again, requirements are PCI, Linux compatible, (and low cost?)
Thanks,

I'm using a Linksys EtherFast 10/100 + 56K modem combo card
and I'm having trouble getting it to start dialing up. I think
it must be some sort of resource conflict because the cardmgr
seems to detect and configure the card properly, but when I
go to dial, it hangs just before beginning to dial. The Ethernet
and Modem parts use the same IRQ, but I compiled CONFIG_SERIAL_SHARE_IRQ
into my kernel, which the HOWTO said to do. However, it still seems
like some sort of conflict must be happening. I can take this card
out, pop the old one back in, and it works fine. So, I'm just
plain stumped. I'm using the pcmcia services 3.1.10. Pasted below are
snippets from my /var/log/messages and my /proc/ioports and
/proc/interrupts.
If anybody could please help me, I would really appreciate it
as I need to get this card working for a presentation I have
in a few days. Thanks in advance.

Now we are getting somewhere! Why didn't you just write this explanation
right from the beginning?
The issue here is of course that the directories you want to upload
to are now owned by you for good reasons, namely security.
What I usually do is to upload to my home directory, then telnet
to the box, copy the files where I want them to be and set the
permissions correctly.

Hi I am running Mandrake 7.1 on my machine ( AMD Athalon 650 +128M
+30G )
I am also running apmd with what ever standard configuration provided
in /etc/sysconfig/apmd
I have also enabled my BIOS power management settings
I have noticed that after about 20 mins of idle time my machine goes
into standby but it wakes up when I do something like moving the mouse
or pressing any key.
But recently I had noticed that if I leave it idle for a longer
time even the power LED goes out and I cannot revive it by any of the
above methods . ( though the CD drives work fine and I can here the
fans inside )
What is happening here ? is there a proper way to revive it from
its deep slumber ( with our rebooting) and should I be concerned about
any hardware or settings fault. ?
Any comments will be appreciated ..
By the way my kernel version is 2.2.15
Thanks

Hi IV,
I'm using an ActionTec Call Waiting Modem. It's PCI, 56K and is compatible
with Windows, Linux and has the added advantage of letting you know when an
outside call comes in, while you're on-line. I found it at Best Buy for $49
and it had a mail-in rebate for $20, making the total cost $29. The manual
gives step by step instructions for setting up under Linux.

Hello,
I just installed RH6.2 on that old i486 / 20Mb RAM with 2 network card
to build a small router with some filtering and masqerading for my 40
customers LAN... We are connected directly to the net with a small
leased line (128 kbps, will be increase in the futur to 512kbps).
1. is this config powerfull enough to handle this LAN and our Inet
connection ?
2. if no, what can be the minimum requirements ?
3. Actually it works (in test phase, only a few machine are "behind"
it....), but the two network cards does not "listen" for network request
after boot. Ex : If I try to ping that router from another machine just
after it has boot up, there is no answer (I got a timeout). I have to
log on localy (on the console), then run some command like "ping <host>"
or "route", and then it goes : the cards are "awakes". Afterward I can
access the router and pass through from another hosts... Is there some
flags, files to set, command to issue at boot time in order to get the
cards actives autmaticaly ?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Charly
