I can run /usr/bin/gdmchooser manually and the other linux boxes will
showup in the chooser dialog. I just can't get the chooser to come up
on its own.

I had a similar problem with Mandrake. I could get the XServer running and
all was good. Then one day while I was checking out the resolutions, it
some how got forced into 640x480 mode, yet Xserver still ran. I tried to
fix it, yet the XFDrake was extremely stubborn and it took several hours to
get it working correctly again. I got it to work by setting all of the
settings - monitor, card, resolution - manually many times over, until it
finally cooperated. I hope this helps you.

I just compiled and configured my kernel to be able to get my cd recorder to
work under Linux.
And everything seems to work fine until I try listening/recording an Audio
CD.
When I try to mount an audio CD I get the following message:

Could not mount
Error log:
Mount : wrong fs type, bad option,
bad superblock on dev/scd0 or
 too many mounted file systems.

I am still kinda new to Linux so I don't know if I missed a step or what.
If anybody can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes, lilo will occupy the mbr if the installation goes right. If lilo
doesn't install correctly (it's happened to me before when installing
Slackware), typing "fdisk /mbr" from a startup disk should do the
trick. You can then try the installation again.

There's a good howto about Linux and Windows 2000 at

I hope this helps. Good luck

Are you using this with Linux? It appears you need to use two
user IDs and passwords, one for dialup and another for user
account. How do you set up the KPPP or gnome-ppp dialer to
accomplish this?

You can't "mount" an audio CD. You can only listen to it.

Subject: A couple NFS questions...

Well, I've got my NFS setup working almost perfectly. I
only have a couple questions. For the purposes of this
'millenia' is the server and 'aquarius' is the client.

This isn't really NFS related, but when I try typing
in 'rsh millenia mount /jaz', I get 'Permission denied'.
If I just 'rsh millenia', I can type in my password
and login just fine. How can I fix this?

Anyway, I've got two directories I'm exporting, one is
/jaz which is my removable Jaz disk and /mp3s which
is just my mp3 partition (imagine that!). Anyway, the
mp3 directory works peachy, but sometimes I'll randomly
get a Permission denied message when trying to mount
the /jaz directory. I always use the same procedure
(mount it on millenia, then on aquarius), but it seems
to be a random thing...it will not go away until I reboot
the server and the client. What could be causing this?

When it does work, however, after I umount it on aquarius,
I try and unmount it back on millenia and it says the device
is busy...and it stays that way until I reboot. What is
making the device stay thinking that it is busy?

I'm running Mandrake 7.1 with kernel 2.2.16 and aquarius
is running RedHat 6.1 with kernel 2.2.16. I'm sure there's
definitely more information that I should be providing, I'm
just not sure where to start. Please let me know what would
help in coming up with an answer.

It's a good idea with all configuration files, and especially with
XF86Config, to save your current file before making changes. That way
if something you change breaks it, well ... you get the idea.

To be more precise, what you want to do is set up 1 mail server to
handle two virtual domains. Go to www.sendmail.org, and look for

FAQ #3.7 How do I manage several (virtual) domains?

Or, if yo prefer, I think qmail also supports virtual domains, so you
might also want to check out www.qmail.org.

Hi,

I used both redhat linux 6.2 and 6.0 cd. The installation started ok and
then at the

Does anyone had similar experience? Is the problem related with the
processor or compaq pc?

Thanks for any info.

This is troubling. However, the NFS daemon is not for mounting remote
filesystems, but for exporting directories to remote users. I don't
have any NFS daemons running on my laptop, yet I can mount NFS
filesystems from said laptop. When I do so, a process called rpciod is
started.

What's the line in /etc/fstab look like for the remote directory? I'd
think it should be:

cello:/z /nfs/cello nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192 0 0

Permission problem? /nfs/cello on your machine should probably at least
have rwxr-xr-x permissions. Make sure this is the case. RedHat does
something weird with "user private groups", and that may be causing
problems... don't know for sure; can't boot to RedHat ATM and try it
out.

(Now you see one of the reasons they call it the Nightmare File System!)

Anyway, if you still can't fix this, we're in the same general area...
send me an E-mail at the obvious address and maybe I can make a "house
call".

If you're smart, you won't use rsh at all. You can
technically setup a .rhosts or /etc/hosts.equiv file
that will solve your problem, but the security authentication
in the rsh/rlogin/rcp programs are very weak and a common
point of network attacks.

rsh is a major security problem, disable it and all it's
cousins immediately. Use ssh instead. Just make sure that
your /etc/ssh_known_hosts contains the keys for each machine.
There's a companion program make-ssh-known-hosts that will
assist you in this.

The description here is not at all clear. Which machine is
the server that has /jaz and /mp3 on it? You don't say.
