You can uninstall NS 4.61 (you will have to override the dependency
checking), including Common, Libs, etc. This will leave you with a
clean system to load the new Netscape on.
The alternative is to not use the RPM version of NS and build NS 4.74
in say the /opt directory. This will essentially leave NS 4.61 alone
and you will have both versions on the system. You have to execute 4.74
from the console, or make an app link on your desktop to use it though.

After a little more digging it appears you are not the only person with
this type of problem on your hardware. This link:

I'm running Red Hat Linux 6.0 and can't get my Sound Blaster PCI128 to work.
I pulled the card, and it says:
Creative Labs Model Number CT4750
Serial No. T4750930018824
Sndconfig says that it finds a PCI sound card of type ES1371. (I gather that
the card is a successor of the Ensoniq 1371.) It sets up the /etc files to
use the es1371 driver. When it tries to play a test sound, I hear nothing.
The sndconfig window goes away, and the shell prompt doesn't come back.
I can interrupt out of it.
If I run lspci, it reports the following:
Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1371 (rev 07)
Subsystem: Unknown device 1274:8001
A friend of mine has a Sound Blaster working under Red Hat 6.0. lspci tells
him that he has the following:
Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1371 (rev 06)
Subsystem: Unknown device 1274:1371
i.e. a different revision and device tag.
Note that if I boot off the Windows partition, the sound works. This rules
out a number of stupid user errors (e.g. volume too low, cabling wrong).
I did not see any interrupt conflicts looking at /proc/interrupts.
Does anyone know how to make the card work under Red Hat 6.0? If not, is
there another card that will work reliably with Red Hat 6.0?
Thanks.

yes - you can try and use parted - a partition editor. There is a stable
version (1.0.x) if you are totally paranoid about losing stuff, and the latest
version is 1.2.6. The package is available from
http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/
RedHat packages and Debian packages are also available. Check Freshmeat for the
latest releases as well

Sufficiently old drivers didn't detect this as a PCI bridge, so they
effectively defaulted to do_pci_probe=0. This Toshiba bridge is weird

Subject: How to get /boot and /lib/modules back to original state?
Date: Tue, 01 Aug 2000 20:11:02 GMT
I made a mistake in installing Win4Lin (an excellent product to
boot Windows 95/98 from within Linux - see www.trelos.com;
the downside is that Trelos is a small company with overworked
Tech Support), and need to uninstall Win4Lin
in order to do a clean re-install. When I boot with the
win4lin modified kernel I get
"depmod:Can't open /lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0smp/modules.dep
for writing", then other things go wrong such as finding
the network is unreachable. The above directory does not
exist unless "smp" is removed from the name. Fortunately
I can tell LILO to use the default kernel while booting
and all is well. But without the win4lin substitute kernel
in effect I can't complete the installation of Win4Lin.
Win4Lin comes with
shell scripts that do most of the uninstall but these leave
/boot and /lib/modules modified (Win4Lin requires booting
with a modified kernel in order to be able to boot Windows).
What is the best way to get /boot and /lib/modules back to
the way they were right after I originally installed
RedHat 6.2, and to get 2.2.14-5.0/modules.dep called for
instead of 2.2.14-5.0smp/modules.dep? Will lilo rebuild
everthing? Thanks in advance.
