Hello,
lookup http://rsync.samba.org/ there are some good examples,
you even can run rsync with the -e ssh option and public
key_authentication,
so you don't have to store passwords on the machine or/and use
rhosts...:-)
Just beware of the high load born during the sync...:-(
Good luck

Subject: glib install question
Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 08:54:33 -0500
Hi,
I am trying to install gtk-1.2.8 which says I need to install glib-1.2.8. I
downloaded, unzipped, and untarred both. I ran ./configure from the
glib-1.2.8 subdirectory with no problems. I then ran make and almost
immediately it exits with an error trying to compile gerror.c saying that
struct timeval has no memory allocated. I grepped for timval and I see a
number of places where a variable is declared of type struct timeval, but I
do not see any place where struct timeval is defined. From looking at the
usage, it would appear that somewhere there should be code that looks
somthing like:
struct timeval {
int tv_sec;
int tv_usec;
}
Any idea what step I missed, or where gerror.c is supposed to get the
definition of struct timeval from?
Thanks
Ed Doyle

There is a new released Linux kernel this month with a lot of fixes, I saw

On newer keyboard, there are two buttons called "Sleep" and
"Wake up" each. In M$Win environment, when I push "Sleep",
the OS enters the "sleep" mode. (I don't know what the mode
is, it turns off monitor, hd, all of the fans includes power
supply.) It comes back immediately as soon as I push "Wake up".
Are there any daemons or programs which could handle this task?

Subject: Re: HELP: Linux instal won't recognize adaptec SCSI card
I finally figured this out. It turns out that the IRQ jumper settings
on the card were mislabeled (i.e. the actual PCB silk screen is
wrong)!!! Apparently Adaptec shipped a bunch before catching the
error. Later boards, I am told, have a sticker with the correct
settings. The correct settings can be seen in the following:
ftp://ftp.adaptec.digisle.net/manuals/installation_guides/ava1505_ig.pdf
http://www.actel.com/apps/guru/sep97/rp243.html
Also, I read that the Windows and DOS drivers don't use the IRQ at all
so although it was always set differently than I thought, it didn't
matter in that environment. This certainly compounded the confusion.
In searching Dejanews, I see that the 152x series is notorious for
problems. I wonder how many are due to this IRQ confusion (which I
didn't find referenced in any Dejanews reply on the topic).

Look for a file .xinitrc in the home directory. If it is not there create
that file. Open that file and add a line to it as "exec startkde" if kde
is required. If kde is not required you can comment that line. Commenting
that line will automatically switch you to GNOME mode. The
file should look like this for GNOME mode to come up:
#exec startkde
To switch to KDE mode the .xinitrc should contain the following line
exec startkde
Hope this will help you.

Sven,
Try setting up the sound card using sndconfig from a console before you start
an X session. Boot your machine to runlevel 3 to setup your sound card. Then,
remaining as root user start an X session and configure your dialup with Kppp
and use ttyS1 as the COM port for the modem.

Hello,
AFAIK it's not possible with the 2.2.x Kernel series to have more than 2 GB
of RAM, as 2 GB
is the max. you can set during configuring the kernel.
I think you'll get more recognized with the 2.4.x series, which is not yet
ready for prime time.
Good luck

Hello,
you have to enter lpr -Plpn
look in your /etc/printcap what printer are configured (lpn == lp1 or lp2
or lp3....)
Propably your default printer, which you choose with lpr is a ASCII one,
hence the text only printing in Netscape.
Setup your printer with the tools that came with your distro, if you have
not the right one in /etc/printcap... Whatever you use?
Good luck

You don't say what version of Red Hat you've got. RH 7.0 ships with a
version of LILO that isn't afflicted by this problem, assuming you've
got a fairly recent BIOS. Therefore, if you're using RH 7.0 and have a
recent computer, the 1024-cylinder limit should NOT be the problem. If
you have an earlier version of Red Hat, try upgrading LILO or replacing
it with GRUB to get around the problem.
