Yup you have!

I've installed RedHat 6.0 and 6.2 on both 509b and 509c cards. I seem to
remember having teething troubles with 6.0, but 6.2 worked like a dream -
probably only because of a later kernel. If you have 6.0 you could get the
latest kernel (2.2.16) and customise to support only the card you have (they
are referred to as 3com 509x I think). Should work like a dream after that!

Linux Mall sells Debian CD's. Cheap Bytes sells Debian CD's. Offer me
some money and I will sell you Debian CD's. Debian is free software:
anyone can sell it. Debian, however, sells nothing.

I retain the right to license my code to any one I choose under any terms I
choose whether I release it under the GPL or the BSD license or any other
free software license. The terms of the license do not bind the author.

Yes, *disk space*! Or do you mean they are going to load the whole 100Megs
into the RAM (or virtual memory) first in order to write it onto your
drive? :-) ROFL

I have a great disblief that swap space is your problem. You should verify
if you got enough disk space to install StarOffice, if memory is a problem
you shouldn't load other unnecessary programs and maybe you should
check your ulimits ('ulimit -a'). Oh, and maybe verify that the StarOffice
package is correct (compare to the checksum) in view of binary data.

Subject: lilo + nt + "dumped" filesystem problem
Date: Wed, 02 Aug 2000 12:52:16 +0100

Hello All,

My problem is this:

I have a couple of computers with the same harddrive (3gig), each having
linux/dos/nt, and being installed from a "master copy", i.e. by

zcat /nfsserver/nt-image.gz | dd of=/dev/hda2

now, to boot the nt and dos partitions, MBR chaining is used, by having a
backup of the original NT mbr stored in a file, and used with
image=/boot/boot.nt

This worked fine, until one harddrive broke down and was replaced with a
4gig drive/brand, which had another geometry than the 3 gigers

NT now only hangs after the lilo promt, doing nothing. I thought it might
help to update the partitiontable in the mbr-file, so I did

dd if=/dev/hda of=newboot.nt bs=512 count=1 # copy original MBR

dd conv=notrunc if=boot.nt of=newboot.net bs=446 count=1

                         # rewrite back NT bootsector,

                         # keeping new partition table

but no luck... :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I dont want to reinstall NT just
to get a new bootsector for this particular drive)

Regards,
 Stephan

Ok....
Let's make this simple, 'cause it really doesn't have to be difficut.

The NETGEAR RT311, and, in fact, all NETGEAR's RT series, hold multiple IP
addresses. There's one assigned to the WAN port (the port connected to the wall
to the outside world), and one assigned to the ethernet port.

Telnet to the RT311, and give it a static, private IP (say,
192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0) and assign your eth0 another IP on that same subnet
(say, 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0) The default route/gateway on your machine's eth0
should point to the RT's ethernet IP address.

While you're in there, set up NAT, and DCHP on the WAN port, and you should be
good to go.

Hope this helps.

Just boot with the rescue/install diskette which you made when you
first installed the system. You should also find a suitable rescue
disk image on you Linux CD or on your distribution's web site.

That's true. i/o is often used interchangeably with "ports" and interrrupts
with IRQ's. It's just semantics, we

What's the different between bzImage and zImage?

Boot the machine with a boot floppy, mount the / partition. then
edit /etc/lilo.conf and put back the old kernel.
Then reboot the machine with the old-kernel.

Can anyone explain where I can get hold of the above module, since

Suprisingly /lib/modules/2.2.12-20/modules.dep has no reference pointing

I am on Redhat 6.1, kernel 2.2.12-20

Yea, you have to take your bzImage newly created kernel and put it
into the /boot dir, then you go into /etc and edit the
lilo.conf file to add the new kernel.

I don't suggest to remove the OLD kernel before a check that the
new one work...

zImage is compressed with Zip, bzImage with bZip2, it's quite
little than the other.

The question is, who is it that's getting the $17.95.

It is _not_ The Debian Project.

Since the author retains rights to license his or her own code under
whatever arrangements they wish, I'm not sure what additional option
they _actually_ get.

Read the GPL looking for clauses that indicate that they are binding
on the author.

You won't find any, because if you are the _author_, the GPL _doesn't
bind you._

That is an _essential_ fact that keeps getting missed.

For something like the Linux kernel, that has hundreds if not thousands
of authors, the GPL winds up being pretty binding overall, as people
give Linus Torvalds code that _they_ have released under the GPL, thus
binding him to release it under the GPL.

In contrast, if I am the sole author of GnomoVision, the Ever Cool DVD
Player that runs on Linux, I can simultaneously release it licensed under
the GPL, and, based on my rights as author, simultaneously release it
under the Studly License, where in order to use it, you have to send me
$5000 and a greeting card that says that I'm A Stud, as well as under
a license whereby Be Software pays me $500,000, and then is allowed to
include a GnomoVision DVD in their boxed sets of BeOS.

Some of those options are somewhat silly, but legally viable.

It's the fault of linuxconf. Don't use it to configure Apache. The best
way to deal with your problem now is to reinstall apache to get back the
original configuration and then make changes in the configuration files
directly. They are in /etc/httpd/conf.

coincidence), the following message appears on the screen every minute:

ttyS0: <X> input overrun(s)

where <X> ranges from 1 to 8.
There is no mouse attached to the machine.

What does it mean? What's wrong and how can I get rid of it -- it floods
the system logs.

Thanks!

Ilya.

Well, if they don't provide a loadable module (assuming that your
actual kernel is modular), I can't see any other solution...
