Pppconfig will do as an example. Quite a few people have had the idea of a
ppp configurator: it is not a particulary original concept. I don't think
anyone else has implemented it quite as well as I have, but then I am not
exactly unbiased.

The last time I received any sort of "reward" from any government was when
I collected my final pay from the US Army thirty years ago.

If I had made pppconfig available before I packaged it and uploaded it,
and another Debian developer had done so first, then he would have become
the maintainer of the pppconfig package. He undoubtedly would have given
the package to me as soon as I expressed interest in maintaining it though:
as author I'm better qualified to maintain it then anyone else.

> ...and now this person got the $25k reward...

I was already a Debian developer when I wrote pppconfig. In order to
upload it he would have to also be a Debian developer. All Debian
developers had the same opportunity that I made $25k on. Thus your
scenario falls apart.

>.. from the same Finnish govt.,

>From no government.

> ...with a copy of the codes that you wrote.

You can get a copy of "the codes I wrote" from the Debian archive any time
you wish. You won't have much luck uploading the code to Debian, though.
To begin with, you'd need to be a Debian developer. You'd never qualify.

Subject: Setting up two nic cards.. Help....
Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2000 04:20:29 GMT

Greetings,
I'm running Mandrake 7.1 I am using eth0 for my cablemodem.
That card is a ne2k-pci and it is working perfectly.
The second card is an SMC-ultra.
Under windows this card works fine. But under linux
it shows up under ifconfig and it seems to ping itself but.
I can't ping any other node in my network.
When I look in /var/log/syslog
I notice I keep getting
eth1: SMC EtherEZ at 0x280, 00 00 C0 CC AC D1, IRQ 11 memory
0xd0000-0xd1fff
kernel: eth1: Tx timed out, lost interrupt? TSR=0x3 ISR=0x3, t=954.

So it seems my card isn't all up to snuff.
I've tried setting up the proper settings in /etc/conf.modules
I put down the correct irq & memory settings.

When doing an lsmod i get the following:

smc-ultra 4252 1 (autoclean)
ne2k-pci 4468 1 (autoclean)
8390 6624 0 (autoclean) [smc-ultra ne2k-pci]
nls_iso8859-1 2280 2 (autoclean)
nls_cp437 3788 2 (autoclean)
vfat 11196 2 (autoclean)
fat 33408 2 (autoclean)
[vfat]

I've looked at the how-to's but nothing helps.
It seems that the 8390 module is being shared but there's nothing about
how to set that up.
If someone can help me I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mark Andal

Aloha all,
I am trying to learn Linux. Instead of doing the "partition
shuffle", I decided to install it to a pre-existing DOS/Windows
partition as the book says I can. It seems to have worked as the
installation ran to completion and now I have two files there called
redhat.img and rh-swap.img. The $64 question is HOW DO I START IT??

If possible, please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You can use loadlin from the dosprompt.
Most Distributions allow start from dos also.
Or download a dos-friendly mini-linuxdistribution.

The message means that you need 4Mb plus what you have already
allocated. Or remove some packages from your selection.
Sound quite strange this, but it's possible if you havent'
created a separate partition for /usr or for /var since these
fs are created into the / fs then.

You can, if you realy are desparate, install the RH6.2 one package at a time
starting with the rpm package. It is tedious, and I would not recomment
doing this except in very special circumstances.

What part of the manual did you have problem with? Start read the

Subject: HP OpenMail newbie needs help with setup
Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2000 07:21:14 GMT

I'm trying to install HP OpenMail on my Red Hat server. So far, I've
installed the program and even set up a mailbox. Unfortunately when I
connect to it with Outlook, all I see are mail folders, no calendar or
contacts or such. Plus, in the mail folders, I only see the standard
folders (Inbox, Drafts, Outbox, Sent Items), and I am unable to either move
mail to these folders or create subfolders.

The first problem would be trying to fix that.

Second, how do I get it set up so that incoming mail is routed to the
OpenMail inbox? I tried creating an alias as described in the HOWTO, but it
didn't seem to work. I do appear to be able to send mail from that account
to another address, but attempting to reply to that e-mail still doesn't
send it to the OpenMail box.

Third, is there any way to bind it to a particular adapter? My Linux box is
my firewall, and I want to only allow Outlook to connect to it from eth1
(10.0.0.1), not eth0 (Internet IP address to the rest of the world),
primarily so I don't have to put a password on it (or worry about changing
the password, etc.). I do of course want to allow e-mail to go out to and
come in from the Internet (sendmail is working fine).

Fourth, is there any way to import an Outlook .pst file? This is pretty
minor, since if I can get Calendar, Contacts, etc. to show up and am able to
create sub-folders in my e-mail folders, I should be able to connect Outlook
to both the .pst and OpenMail and drag and drop stuff from one to the other.
