Just do it :-)
I suppose E and F are in the extended partition ==> /dev/hda5. Install
SuSE there. BEWARE: NT doesn't like Linux at all (my NT committed
suicide several times -- I decided for SuSE)

I downloaded the new version of LILO (21.5) that overcomes the 1024
cylinder limit for IDE. When running QuickInst as root, it says:
Making LILO ...
cc -E check-config.cpp `( if [ -r $ROOT/etc/lilo.defines ]; then cat
$ROOT/etc/lilo.defines; else echo -DM386 -DIGNORECASE -DVARSETUP

Also, why does the README says that the 1024 cylinder limit is a
problem, just like the README in older versions of LILO? ... or is it
simply that the READ has not changed?
Also, running QuickInst warned that it should not be used to overwrite
an existing lilo installation.
The term 'installing LILO' is sometimes vague, as it is used in some
docs to mean 'installing the bootloader onto the boot sector or
something similar' .. and in this case it means 'building and installing
lilo into /usr/sbin/lilo ... without affecting the bootloader in the
boot sector'.

I use fetchmail to collect my mail and post
it to the relevant linux accounts, I'm not sure about MSN mail
but take a look at
http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/contrib/libc6/i386/fetchmail-5.4.5-1.i386.html
There is also fetchpop from the same site, useful but simpler.

Look at fetchmail. Its companion program fetchmailconf makes it very
easy to set up if you don't feel like writing ~/.fetchmailrc yourself,
and it works flawlessly here.

fetchmail does support things like MS Exchange, so it may work. I've
never tried it with MSN, though.

hi, all..
is there some "magic recipe" on how to compile/install this product??
When using from *.rpm (SuSE 6.2, yast-I) it simply disapear, leaving
no trace of itself at all.
Also tryed the *.tgz, but it claims that there are no its own

This depends on which distribution you use.
On a RH you would probably have to change some, or all of these:
Eth0 ip address etc:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
Default gw:
/etc/sysconfig/network
Host ip address:
/etc/hosts
DNS:
/etc/resolv.conf

And nothing to stop other sellers from sniffing profit, jumping in,
and undercutting the first seller.

Actually, the Fishpot is somewhat correct about this, albeit probably
through no fault of his own here. Departments don't simply get a
budget, they get individual line items, and pretty much have to hit
budget on every one of those line items or watch next year's
allocation plummet.
I worked for one major supercomputer vendor some years back, and a
customer called me to ask whether a $100K front end to a $10M system
should be configured with a really trashy disk drive and seriously
insufficient memory vs. a merely trashy drive and woefully
insufficient memory. When I noted that the front end should be
configured with sufficient memory and a good drive, he explained that
they had a big pot of money for purchase of the supercomputer and a
much smaller pot for the front end system.
So yes, a department with an IT budget of $1M for software may well
feel compelled to buy more expensive software than they need just to
hit their budget. That doesn't mean that every department operates
under those constraints, but that sort of nonsense does happen.

Only change the JAVA_HOME environment variable, this should be enough
(depends on the start scripts). There are, however, some programs that
do not work under Java2. In that case, recompiling them won't help.

My linux machine itself can telnet to other established linux/unix
servers, but I can not telnet to my linux machine. I know my windows
machine is fully functional and it too can telnet to linux/unix
servers with no problem. The name of my server, let's call it
whatever.com, can be resolved but it just sits there and times out.
In other words, in windows if you go to run and type telnet
whatever.com it will resolve the name but that's it. The telnet
screen is blank and after a matter of seconds it times out. It's like
the windows machine sees where my linux server is, but my linux server
refuses to talk. Damn snobby linux servers! I have no fire wall at
this time and have a static IP so neither of these are a
consideration. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

It is fine to have a single mount point of / - you just need to install
fewer packages. Choose "Select Individual Packages" and eliminate what
you do not need.

All the APIs in the 1.1.7 are still supported in the
1.2.2, altough, some APIs are "deprecated", so the
'recompile option' is not obbligatory, but if you
want to do a "polite" thing, you have to.
