I know that it is not yet supported in XFree86 4.0. However, what would be
the expected time frame of it being supported?
Anyone have any ideas? Is it gonna be another 6 months before it is fully
supported? Or will it be sooner than that?

Hi, I'm trying to set up Adelphia Powerlink using SuSE 6.4.
I have a SURFBoard Modem and an Olicom Ethernet Card (though that may
change soon)
dhcp seems to work, but I can't connect to any sites and seem to get no
activity. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi,
anyone knows hoe to assemble a .s file in linux using as??
I have difficulty compiling my code, it's very simple code, yet the
compiler cannot recognize the operands, it says: "operands given don't
match any known 386 instruction"??? I do have 1 instruction is only
recongnized by a 486 cpu, it's the <xadd> instruction, but appart from
that, nothing. So is there a way of using as and telling it that my
CPU=486 or somehting like that??
Do I need to setup something??
Thanks so much.

Yes you can, that is how I dual boot. I used the Linux+NT-Loader mini howto
for the setup steps.

I would love to join this group being a newbie to linux, but don't
think I will bother.
I was under the impression these groups were for the free movement of
ideas, skills and knowledge and to assist those in getting past known
and unknown problems.
It would appear they are being used to promote/argue/discuss political
definitions and to argue the toss about the differneces between Europe
and the US.
Rather than the setup of a unix operating system.
Good luck anyway,

Jose:
Odd... I'm running 2.2.16 on an AMD K6-2 500 with an ATAPI CD-ROM, listening to
CD's as we speak... What does your /etc/fstab look like pertaining to the CD-ROM?
I ::used:: To have that "problem" under the old 2.0.X kernels, until I figured out
I had the wrong settings for the cdrom in /etc/fstab....
Should look something like this:
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 owner,noauto,ro 0 0
Also, if you've got an application running, such as a CD Player of some sort, and
you eject the CD-ROM, the program is probably polling the CD for data every once in
awhile, which makes the kernel dump messages when it can't find the data... so try
closing out that CD player before ejecting the CD, then restarting the player.
Hope this helps.

wtf???? startx not found ?
As root,
OK, simple stuff: do " locate startx"
If it errors out , do "locate -u /", which I think will build the database.
then do the "locate startx"
if you find it, then try running it by typing the full path to it.
Check :do you have a startx script which is world executable in
/usr/X11R6/bin/ or somewhere abouts?
Do you have a valid XF86Config file somewhere? perhaps in /etc/X11/ ?
>From run level 3, can you run the "XConfigurator" and complete the setup
properly ?
Every time I've put in X, ( RH 5.0, 5.2, 6.0, Solaris ), there was *always*
a startx script to kick it off .
In the XF86Config file, is your mouse setup properly ?

My sound card only seems to work under Linux if I start the computer in
Windows first. If I do a cold boot directly into Linux the sound card
doesn't work, i.e. cat /dev/sndstat gives an error rather than the nice
list of devices. By the behavior is suspect that Windows is
initializing something on the card that Linux for some reason isn't.
I'm using Suse 6.2, the sound card is a a Sound Blaster compatible Bravo

But now I got a Device busy during the boot up ... ?

You do not need to do anything. inetd take care of that.
inetd is started when linux is booting. inetd reads /etc/inetd.conf
to see what ports it should listen on. /etc/services converts the name
to number.
In /etc/services:
telnet 23/tcp
In /etc/inetd.conf:
telnet stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.telnetd
A short description of what happends when a client try to connect to port 23.
inetd run the command /usr/sbin/tcpd with the parameter in.telnetd.
tcpd use /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny to grant or deny
access from a client. tcpd switch to in.telnetd if the access is granted.
in.telnetd exchange some information with the client and start the program
login. login asks for user and password and switch to users shell.
in.telnetd close the connection with the client when the shell
is terminated by CTRL-D or 'exit'.

Unless you specify that a normal user can manage device connections, root is
the only one who has permissions to bring them up and down. kppp may be
running some kind of wrapper that su's to root for that particular operation.
I'm not familiar with kppp... I su and use /sbin/ifup|ifdown, but this is one
other possible explanation.
