Yes, it's me again. I've gone through everything I know, trying to set up
an apache webserver running through the inet daemon, http is bound to port
8080 but for some reason will not start. When I run /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd
status it returns "httpd dead but subsys locked", when I run
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd start , it fails and this is what the httpd error log
looks like:

You can do this in a couple of different ways. The easiest is probably
to do it with 'chsh' but if this doesn't exist on your system, then
you can do it manually by editing /etc/passwd
The shells you have installed on your system must be listed in
/etc/shells in order to use chsh to change the shell.

Intel has a driver for the 810 chipset on their website. Worked okay for
me. I did not think it was done all that well. I still had some vertical
lines across the screen, etc. As far as upgrading, I don't know for sure
that Xfree86 3.3.6 supports that card either. If you don't want to upgrade
just to find out, try the intel driver.

Use the Intel provided drivers. Check out searching on linux on their
website and you can get to a driver download area. They have instructions
for the driver's installation there also.

Not my preferred way of doing things. I like using linux for the
NAT/firewall or internet sharing device. Try pointing linux to the IP
address on your 98 box by using the route command, add the ISPs dns settings
in /etc/resolv.conf. For the route command you would want something like:
route add default gw 192.168.0.1
Next move to the /etc directory and edit resolv.conf to include the ISPs dns
stuff. You should find where linux stores this stuff so it gets executed at
boot time. And then... Don't reboot :)

You will need the pcmcia sources if you have not installed them. pcmcia
manages the modules in a /lib/modules/2.2.x/pcmcia directory. When you
insert the card with pcmcia enabled do you get two high beeps or a high and
low beep?
Debian usually installs the pcmcia modules as you do an install. I usually
do debian installations using the floppy diskette method and it senses I
need pcmcia sources.

the oracle client is correctly installed on the machine (tnsping works).
php is compiled with option : --with-oracle=$ORACLE_HOME (and
$ORACLE_HOME points to the correct oracle's directory)
during php compilation, there is no error.
after compilation, http and php work only for pages that dont call
oracle functions. otherwise an error shows up saying that the function
is unknown
any help will be appreciated

3.3.6 works fine with M64 - I installed it for a friend, and it is working
great.
3.3.5 - which is the one on rh6.0 - does not support the TNT2 chips. I
would recommend upgrading to 6.1 or 6.2. I upgraded from 6.0 to 6.1 and
later to 6.2, and I recommend the upgrade, as I have found many bugs
solved...
At least you will have to upgrade XFree86 to version 3.3.6.

First arrange a CD which contains the redhat image or get a floppy which
has kernel. (CD is a better option). Now, boot ur computer through the
CD-ROM by writing this at the boot prompt of CD Boot.
Boot prompt :> vmlinuz root=/dev/hda?
where /dev/hda? is the partition which is the root partition.
the system will boot up with some errors.
Now, log in as root and edit the /etc/lilo.conf file
change the line having /dev/hda to /dev/fd0
place a floppy in the comp and run /sbin/lilo
now you have a bootdisk.
Other better way of preparing a boot disk is to use mkbootdisk (as root)

Hi,
I have just bought a Plextor UltraSCSI 12x 4x 32x drive.
Even though I burnt a CD only once since then, it seems to
work quite well with the usual cdrecord/mkisofs combo.

If you have created the "rescue" disk during the installation, simply
boot with it, it will ask if you want to boot from /dev/hda5 (usually
the standard), simply press enter and your'in.
Then edit your lilo.conf file to add the Windows partition and type
lilo to update the MBR and re-install the boot loader.
If you do not have the Rescue Disk, you can create it from the Red
Hat Cd Rom.

You can use lilo to select the rootdevice.
The other way is to use the rdev command which change the kernelimage.
Or try the lilo bootoption root=hdxx.

No I think not, and this is the eternal problem indeed.
It takes time to write a app like that, and it takes just as much time to get
the data sometimes, if you can get it at all, for the chips used.
This is an area that manufacturers should realize would help increase sales.
Linux is not small (number of users).
If they released specs to developers, a lot more could be done, and a lot better.
Or even released Linux versions of their software.
Probably there is some fear for giving away secrets to the competition...
Last version I heard was the Creative Webcam III, but different chips are used.
Vision UK has been very helpful in realeasing data (they make the sensor and the
chipset) for the webcam II.
Without their help i could not have written mcam.
Ask in the webcam4linux or maybe the video4linux mailing lists on the satus of
available software for web cams?
Of cause these programmers like me cannot go buying each new model that comes
out either...
So it is up to the manufacturers really to jump into this with Linux software.
