Per default you can't log in as root. Did you logged in as root or as an
user?

That command is run by rc.sysinit, wheter it is necessary or not;
just in case the modules.dep should be missing.
Of course, if people goes through the trouble of recompiling the kernel
anyway, they could include the required modules into the kernel, and
thus avoid the modules problems

Go to a warez site, I'm sure you will find:
win3.11
win95
win98
winme
winNT
win2000
all available for download, including the number you want.

I have gotten it all to work now (had to use XF86Setup and insert ChipID 0x5246
into the device line). So I shall shut up and read before I get annoying like
that again. Thank you for your help, time and patience.

How do you go about extracting and compiling the kernel on a hard drive
other than hda1. I have a second drive with lots o room on it and I want to
compile the latest kernel on this HDD. The howto's and books say that it
must be done on hda1 under /usr/src.
Thanks

Subject: apache php mod_perl install (rc.d)
Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 08:37:05 GMT
Dear experts:
Firstly, I install redhat 6.2 with default options. And then I want
to install the least version of php, so I should reinstall apache. As I
uninstall apache, so I have to uninstall mod_perl and php3(all use rpm -
e ...). Then I install the apache and php, it seems good. but when I ls
the /etc/rc.d/init.d, I could locate the httpd file, so I couldn't
autostart the httpd at start time. Does anybody can tell how to recover
the /etc/rc.d/httpd?(somebody in this forum say it could do with
DarkConf, but I could find it in my linux system, If it works, please
tell me where to download ). Another question, then I want to install
the mod_perl_xxx.src.rpm, I use the command rpm --rebuild
mod_perl_xxx.src.rpm. It seems good at beginning. but then it reports
some errors like couldn't find the httpd.h file. Then I copy the .h
file from xxx/apache_xxx/src/include to /usr/include. But it still
couldn't work.
These questions are drive me mad, please give me a hand.
Thanks in advance.

This will only work if you don't have LILO in the MBR, but instead
use the NT bootloader to fire up LILO from the Linux boot partition.
If, however, you want to put LILO in the MBR (which is the default,
unless you're using a different bootloader), then you will have to
either disconnect the IDE drives, or use the "bios=..." options
in lilo.conf .

Right. In addition to that, you may want to check whether
your new CDROM drive is jumpered as Master or Slave on its IDE
channel. If the position differs from that one on the old drive,
your /etc/fstab entry (that the "mount" command reads) will be
pointing to the wrong device now.

I am thinking something like a BIOS problem, or something I am not aware of
in the kernel. The machine is an old 486, so that could be the indicator of
worse things yet to come.

Hi,
I've a Linux NFS server and a solaris client. I want root on the client to
be able to install onto the NFS mounted partition, and change owner/perm.
The option for the linux '/etc/exports' file is 'no_root_squash', but the
solaris client doesn't seem to understand that. Is there another option??

I don't know what RH7.0 does, but with 6.2 I have to do these:
insmod parport
insmod ppa (or imm for some drives)
If that doesn't work for 7.0, I don't know what does. But I sure would like
to know so I will be watching for the answer. If you solve it, please do
post it.

route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your ip address
i hope this helps. i had the same problem awhile ago and after about 6

I've not completely figured it out but removing both of my Ethernet

the installation to complete.
Anyone want to add their comments about multiple Ethernets is welcome.

The "standard" way of doing this is to supply a
"-o root=${host1}:${host2}:${host3}" option to the share/exportfs command
line; however, looking at the man page under Linux, I didn't see that
option. You might consider giving it a try to see what happens.
