You can even call setup.exe ;-) from the first SuSE cd. It will ask you
if you want to use loadlin and then install everything properly and start=
the installation automatically.

Can you change volume at all with Linux? Maybe your sound driver does
not support the mixer device. I recommend trying alsasound and also
different mixers. On my laptop I found that only 2 of 5 mixers that I had=
installed could change the volume of the speaker...

Some restaurants require proof that you are actually booking a table, and
if you don't show, they'll charge you a standard charge for the loss of that
table for a given amount of time. It's fairly standard and seems sensible.
Although I said payment, verification was also implied. It depends what sort
of restaurant it is.

Either way, you're going to need a key, stored somewhere on the server. Unless
you are adamant about the security of your server this isn't secure. As I
said, this is the reason to go for a third party who can guarantee security.

I've done it three time so far, no problems, but I'm guaranteeing security on
the servers.

I think you might have misunderstood me. I said if he wasn't taking credit
cards numbers over the web, he shouldn't consider the jokers he was on about
and just go off to do something himself, whether that means hiring another
third party, buying a co-lo, setting up their own server or using web hosting.
I just meant to stay away from anyone who's gonna be getting paid for every
single booking.

THIS IS NOT A LILO PROBLEM!
People keep assuming that booting from beyond cyl. 1024 is a problem
related to lilo, but in fact this is a problem of the BIOS (newer
bios'es don't have this problem, nor do the newer lilo-versions).
Try putting Windows in a partition entirely above cyl. 1024 and see how
well it boots. a) you probably cannot even install it there!
b) if you could it would not be bootable!

1. start control-panel from a xterm and pick the phone/modem icon
make sure you pick right com port.
2. start netcfg from a xterm and pick interfaces, do a add.
3. after the create interface closes, select ppp0 from the menu and click on
activate.
If that works then you should be able to use Gnome or KDE ppp apps to connect
to
your ISP.
I hope you are trying this on a external modem.

Hi all, I got a Mandrake 71 distribution and I recompiled my kernel
(2.2.14) in order to work with RTLinux. Since then, I can see the dos
partitions (a 2.5 Gb primary and a 500 Mb extended) only with the
origuinal kernel (2.2.15) shipped with the distribution.
When I boot from the patched RTLinux Kernel, it says "Wrong major or
minor Number".
My fstab is :
=============================
/dev/hda6 / ext2 noatime 1 1
/dev/hda1 /mnt/dosC vfat user,exec 0 0
/dev/hda5 /mnt/dosD vfat user,exec 0 0

Any help will be appreciated.

Subject: A GURU question? Sending CTRL-ALT-F4 to /dev/console
Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 11:28:22 GMT
Hi,
Anyone know how to send an arbitray set of key presses to the
console? I know that 'chvt 4' will basically do that, but it doesn't
work when VMWare is running in full screen mode.
I tried using 'showkey' to figure out the keys I was pressing and then
using 'echo -ne "\oct1\oct2\oct3..." > /dev/console' but that didn't
work.
The problem I have is that I need to send that key sequence to the
console when apm shuts down my laptop in case a VMWare session is in
full screen mode.
Thanks.
P.S. Sorry for the cross post. I've posted before to only two groups and
never got any replies at all!

Have you looked at MRBS? It does most of what you want, AIR is GPL. Its
written in PHP and looks quite nice. If you can make it to the Slug meet at
Borders Bookshop on Thurs I'll be proving how little I know about PHP by

Try this if you need to capture the current contents of /dev/tty1. You
may want to capture the lines just before the screen clears by putting
this in your /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
dd cbs=80 conv=unblock < /dev/vcs1
I've found this very usefull when remotely accessing a machine and
needing to see what was on the console.
Of course, the other advice about the dmesg command and the SHIFT-PGUP
are great too...

Subject: RH6.2 Kickstart Anaconda Problemes
Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 13:58:12 +0200
Hi,
I want to do a kickstart installation of RedHat 6.2. I already
successfully did this with RedHat 5.2, so I did not expect problems.
However, doing the kickstart installation gives me the following error
message after the SCSI module is being loaded:
Traceback (innermost last):
File "/usr/bin/anaconda", lise 341, in ?
extraModules = extraModules)
File "/tmp/updates/todo.py", line 334, in __init__

todo.addMount(dev, mntpoint, fstype, reformat)
File "/tmp/updates/todo.py", line 397, in addMount
self.mounts[location] = (device, fsystem, reformat)
AttributeError: mounts
I searched the ks.cfg file for errors and did not find any. It is
attached to this message (just 901 bytes, sorry anyway). I also played
with the parameters (install method; cdrom or nfs and such) without
changing the error message. I also changed the location of the kickstart
file (it was first on a DHCP server, but now I put in on the floppy and
use linux ks=floppy), but all my tries were to no avail.
I use the last available boot images from RedHat and the update-disk.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, dominik
