Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has any good advice for my situation. I have
looked through documentation and tried different things, but I am still
having problems. I am running Linuxppc on a G3 powerbook. I have a 3
button USB logitech wingman gaming mouse that I would like to use. It
plugs into my Cardbus pcmcia USB card. From the documentation and
various other users experiences I have read, it appears that this setup
may not yet be supported. I was wondering if anyone out there had tried
this at all? USB drivers are installed and come up during boot. I have
tried setting it up as a ps2 and usb mouse with no luck using
mouseconfig. I also manually twiddled the XF86config and
/etc/sysconfig/mouse files. As a last resort, I tried to set up my
system to use 2 mice (the default and working 1 button adb mouse)
through XF86config reading /dev/gpmdata and running gpm -m /dev/adbmouse
-t bm -M -m /dev/usbmouse -t ps2, but that did not seem to work either.
If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

I downloaded the 2.2.17 kernel to install on my mandrake 7.1 system.
I compiled and installed the kernel with no problems.
The only thing is that supermounting no longer works in either kernel.
When I go to /mnt/floppy or /mnt/cdrom nothing happens.
I get into the directory fine but nothing is listed. The floppy drive shows
no activity, nor do the dcrom drives.
What have I done??
Thanks

Can anybody tell me why the kernel would panic, saying "init not found,
try using init="
I am able to boot without trouble, using "root=/dev/sdb1" but when I try
using "root=/dev/sdb5" the problem happens.
/dev/sdb5 does contain /bin /etc /sbin and /dev, so the files /sbin/init
and /sbin/telinit definitely exist. specifying the boot option
"init=/sbin/init" makes no difference.
Thanks in advance.

I've got the fstab set up as
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto users,noauto 0 0
Could this be my problem ?? .....................................^^^
??
I've got the directory /mnt/floppy, and it is read/write for g and o. mount
and umount
are read/write/exec for g and o. I've got the cdrom set up the same way and
I can mount it and use it as a normal user (not root). If I su to root and
mount dev/fd0 - any user can access it, also can unmount. BUT if I try:
mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount -t ext2 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
I get the error, only root can mount. If I try:
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
I get the error, bad filesystem or block device .... (both ext2 and msdos
floppies !!)

cd into the bin dir under Star Office (in your /home dir).
Use the following line at a command prompt;
./soffice &
the './' is important (I assume you're running Bash).
Another good idea is to make sure that the /$HOME/"star office dir"/bin is
on the PATH in your local profile.

Try to boot off a Win98 emergency boot disk and see if you can get ot the
parition that way. Another trick would be to use fip and see if it can see
the partition - if it can then there's probably hope that it can be salvaged.
When you boot off the emergency disk go to a command prompt - leave
the GUI stuff for when it's fixed.
YMMV

Mark - Take a look at a kernel package in the Documentation
dir. (/usr/src/linux/Documentation). There should be a couple
files that talk about the CL AWE sound cards. Although
it sounds like you're using a distribution kernel these docs
will give you an idea of what the system 'should' look like. Pay
attention to the talk about the PnP config.
You'll want to do an lsmod to see if all modules are loaded. Use
the insmod command to load the ones that are missing. Email me
offline if you need somemore assistance - I'm running a Mandrake
distro taht started as 6.1->7.0. Yes, I have an AWE64.

First you have to include supermount support (either directly or modular) in the
kernel (meaning you have to use the mandrake source). If the kernel couldn't
find supermount during boot, it will have altered your fstab file, removing any
reference to it. Just go through and put it back in ;-). The proper syntax can
be found at <http://www.mandrakeuser.org>

'man 5 crontab' - you can just use lines that look like:
PATH = /usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin
... and you should be fine.

Actually, I have to admit to rather liking GRUB. I'm prepared to believe
Caldera didn't set it up amazingly well, but being able to configure
everything at the grub> prompt sure beats the hell out of rebooting and
editing /etc/lilo.conf all the time, especially if you play with weird

I had a terrible time getting test7 to compile a useable kernel until I did
a "make clean".
Try this;
make dep
make clean
(very important with test7)
make bzlilo
(or whatever - perhaps "make bzdisk" for a test floppy)
make modules
make modules_install

I guess you have to specify it in menuconfig-> SCSI configuration ->lower level
SCSI devices subconfiguration
I couldn't boot because of it.
