At the console, type "locate dhcpcd" and make sure you have it, probably in
/sbin. If you don't, find the dhcpcd rpm and install.

As root, try placing the following line in /etc/X11/Xsession
imwheel -kp
This works for Linux-Mandrake 7.1 (what I'm using now), and -should- work
for RH 6.1, AFIK. See the imwheel man page for explanation of the -p
option. I had trouble getting imwheel -k to work for non-privalaged users
before adding the -p option. Then restart X.
Hope that helps.

Hi!
I just installed Linuxppc on my iMac DV SE, and I'm not able to install
correctly my DSL connection. It would be great if anybody could tell me all
the steps to get the DSL working!
Thank you very much,

>From my research on the subject, which I admit is not at expert level, the
practicle limitation of a standard mtu such as sendmail or postfix is
between 65K and 75K due to the time involved in validating a user in a
conventional manner. Once you get to that point it takes too long to ind
and validate a user under default user authentication methods.
The way around that, of course, is to have your users authenticate against a
database, much the same as in a large RADIUS config. That way you have
optimized authentications and you can push, if I remember correctly, about
100-200K more users out.
Of course, at that point, if you have your mail going through one box,
you're asking for trouble. If you have more than 10K users, I would set up
a second mail server and start balancing up the load. A system that can
hadle that load is cheap, probably looking at under 3k for a beige box with
a decent raid array.
But then again who knows, I'd provide footnotes to this data, but it's late
and I'm just too lazy to dig them out. :)

Subject: SCSI support in RH 6.2, kernel 2.2.14-5.0
Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2000 03:57:38 GMT
I posted the majority of this message to the linux.redhat.install
group and have not received any advise. I need some assist getting RH
6.2, kernel 2.2.14-5.0 to recognize my Future Domain SCSI Card. This
is probably a very basic matter, but has me stumped. If anyone can
help I would appreciate it. I have read the HOWTOs and pertinent
sections of the O'Reilly books Running Linux, Learning Red Hat Linux
and Linux in a Nutshell. Could not find answers in any of those
sources. Here are the particulars:
I would like to add SCSI support for my Future Domain TMC 1610M.
Red Hat's web page says that I should append
fdomain=IO_base,IRQ[,ADAPTER_ID] . So my append would be:
fdomain=0x140,10,7
But it does not say what I am appending this information to...
How do I enable this support. I tried adding that line to lilo.conf,
without any change. Boot screen still says: SCSI 0 hosts
SCSI 0 det total
Which tells me that it is just not seeing that darn card.
Anyone have any suggestions. I cannot access my Zip drive until I get
this working.
Thanks in advance for any assistance given. E-mail assistance
welcome, too.

Did you run /sbin/lilo after making your change to lilo.conf?
Did you add an appropriate "alias scsi_hostadapter" line to
/etc/modules.conf? Possibly also requiring an options line with your
card's configuration.
If you need access to the card at boot time, did you make an initial RAM
disk with the driver? (Since you're using it for your Zip disk and not
your hard drive, you probably don't require this).

Have you put the 509 card in normal mode, ie not pnp? if not, download the
drivers from 3com and
configure it as normal network card. Turn off the Plug and Play setting.

Dear ALL,
If you have RedHat 6.1 or 6.2, and you want to have
the boot disk on one card, and a tape drive and a second
disk on a second scsi card.... Will the system recognize
both scsi cards, or will I have to live with one card ?
Also, lets say you own an Adaptec 1542, and your second
card is an Avansys..... is mixing brands a bad thing ?
Just wondering if anyone has tried this sort of config ?
Thanks in advance.....

I just tried to do a backup of my laptop hard drive using Veritas backup Pro

After I came back, the backup halted at 2.88GB with a warning saying that

Is there an work around for this??? any settings that I have to know???

Hi all,
I'm trying to get two hard drives working. They're installed and
recognized. One has dual boot linux/freebsd with lilo doing the booting.
The other will have dual boot when I figure out other problems. Right
now I've managed to install OpenBSD in virtue of installing from cdrom
on boot up. When I try to boot from hard disk lilo hangs with "LI"
echoed to the screen.
What I don't understand is how bios works. I was under the impression
that some how the bios would provide me with a choice of which HD to
boot from, once that choice was I would then have to chose which OS to
boot.
Both drives are Maxtor, one is 13.5 the other 15.2gigs. One, the
working dual booter is the primary master, the other is the primary
slave.
How does what I'm trying to do work? That is: first select the hard
drive then the OS. Is it possible to boot the OS's on the slave from
the master disk, or is that the only way?

Subject: Help with RH 7.0 installation
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Victor S. Miller)
Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2000 06:05:26 GMT
I've installed RH 7.0 on my Dell system with a Pentium MMX and 64Meg
memory. I've run into the following problems, and hope that someone
can help me (or provide me with pointers)
1) I have an IDE Zip drive (100 meg), and if there isn't a disk
inserted in the drive when I try to boot the system hangs.
2) I initially installed Lilo in the MBR (at least that's what I told
installation to do). When it starts to boot it just prints "L" and
hangs. I found by searching around that this is related to having
the boot partition past cylinder 1024 on my hard disk. In order to
be able to boot Windows, I had to revert to the old windows boot
record, and boot Linux from a floppy. Is there any way that I can
fix the partition problem, short of removing Linux and its
partition and starting all over again.
3) Linux decided that I have a standard 101 key keyboard (which is
what I have, and Windows thinks I have). It works fine for the
most part in Linux except that backspace and delete generate some
sort of weird sequence which is NOT being interpreted as backspace
and delete respectively. What can I set in Linux to get the proper
behavior.
4) When Linux boots, one of the messages is that insmod has a problem
with my sound blaster 16, and as a result it doesn't work. It
works fine from windows (I have all the IRQ settings and I/O ranges
written down). What do I need to do to get this operating
properly?
5) I have an Intel Ether Express 10 (which, as far as I can tell has a
driver eepro.o). How do I set it up? It wasn't autodected by
setup (I don't know why)?
6) The ethernet card is connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router which
uses DHCP to set the IP addresses and name server addresses. How
do I get that info setup?

Boot into linux and run "/sbin/lilo -u"
Then use linux fdisk and delete all the linux partitions.
Reboot with a DOS/windoz bootdisk and run "fdisk /MBR"
Then format the drive and install windoz.
Hope this helps.

You need a small /boot partition about 16M at the beginning of the hard
drive.
The partition you are trying to boot up from is probably either above the
1024 cylinder area or the partition is large enough
that it has crossed over the 1024 cylinder.

Get out your windows floppy that you created and boot up with it.
a:> fdisk
delete all the partition and create windows partition.
Now you can reboot and install windows from your CD.
