I have a Slackware system at home that has two SCSI cards installed
in it. The first card is an ASUS SC875 which uses the ncr53c8xx
driver. The second card is an Adaptec AIC-7850. Both cards
are PCI.
The first card has a hard drive, CD, and CD-RW drives attached
and the second card has an Epson scanner attached.

AFAIK, both are shipped with the last releases of REDHAT !
So it's not realy necessary to build your own modules !

This will only work if the "fdomain" module is loaded. It will have to
be part of the initial ramdisk image or compiled into the kernel as well.

Jim, you say to set DHCP_HOSTNAME=cxxxxxxx, which is the id number your cable
setup gives you. I don't know this number, how can I find it?

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. But it is STILL not working. Now, I am
either a complete idiot or tremendously unlucky. I went into netconf and
set everything to blank except kernel module and net device.
kernel module = 3c509
net device = eth0
of course
Then I tried rebooting. During the initialization, I got to "booting up
eth0" and then it hung for a while. Then I got the error again, unable to
setup eth0 via dhcpcd..failed. But this time, the PC light on the cable
modem actually turned on and the data light was blinking.
Then when I was logged in, as root, I typed "pump -i eth0" and then the PC
light came on again, it hung for a while, then it said "operation failed"
and the light went off. I even tried typing "dhcpcd -r" and the same thing
happened. The light goes on then off. Please don't hate me for bothering
you guys but I really wish to learn Linux. But I can't when some things
don't work. BTW, the ethernet isn't the only thing working. But I'm taking
it step by step.
thanks again

Can someone tell me how to prevent named and dhcpd from constantly
logging info into syslog. I can't find what they log as so I can turn it
off in /etc/syslog.conf, nor have I found any switches for either
program.
Any help is appreciated.

James, when I first set up both RedHat and Mandrake Linux, I had the same
problem. I have never successfully gotten the system to use DHCP on the
first go round.
The workaround I found was to let it fail on startup, then use dhcpcd to
connect. I used the command
"dhcpcd -h cc#######-a eth0" where the "cc#######-a" is the hostname the
techs gave you when they set up your machine. This command connected and
grabbed all the info it needed from the ISP.
Since this command ended up working for me, I just added to the end of the
init file so it executes after the other pertinent stuff does.

Have you tried it without dhcp? I've got my @home connection working with my
settings as follows: (I've got kernel 2.2.17-21 installed)
under adapter 1
Enabled (selected)
Config mode Manual (selected)
Net device - eth0
Kernal module - tulip (my cards chip sett)
also make sure the network selection is selected in the startup services
section of DrakConf, this seems to be easily reset wihen rpms are installed
that look to this section

I had exactly the same prob with mandrake 7.1
what I did was just to statically assign an IP address to eth0
and then once it had booted run "dhclient eth0"
and that did the trick

Hi All,
I'm trying to configure my RH 7.0 system to use my AOpen AW200 sound
card. The AOpen web site mentions that 4front and alsa have support for
the card, but as of yet I haven't been able to make it work.
The card docs say it's compatible with SB Pro and Windows Sound
System, but I haven't been able to make it work that way either. Does
anyone out there have any ideas?
Thanx!

Subject: output firewall dropping packets
Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2000 18:44:24 GMT
I have a system with ip-masq working fine for udp, tcp and icmp. But, when
I send esp packets (protocol 50 - ipsec), then log shows the packets coming
in the internal NIC, being fw-masq at the external nic, but no log showing
the packet going out the external nic!
For example, for icmp packets, I see:
input accept eth1 192.168.1.1 --> [destIP]
fw-masq eth0 192.168.1.1 --> [destIP]
output accept eth0 [MyrealIP] --> [destIP]
then the response:
input accept eth0 [destIP] --> [MyrealIP]
output accept eth1 [destIP] -->192.168.1.1
But, for esp (protocol 50) packets, I only see two lines:
input accept eth1 192.168.1.1 --> [destIP]
fw-masq eth0 192.168.1.1 --> [destIP]
I also never see the hub attached to eth0 flash when I send the esp packets,
but I do see it flash when I send regular (tcp, udp, etc.) packets. So, the
logs appear to represent reality, but the question is, WHY aren't the esp
packets getting out???? This is driving me bizerk! Any ideas? Redhat 7.0.
One more thing: I know the hub/cable modem, etc. all the way to the dest is
not the problem, since if I bypass the linux firewall box everything works
fine and I can talk with the esp packets fine. So, it is DEFINTELY the
linux box tossing the esp packets on the floor. But why????
thanks,
-Andy

There should be a computer name they give you, like cxxxxxxx-c to identify you
machine. Did they give you a work order? See if you can find something that looks
like HST: cxxxxxxxx-c - On my @homw work order it was down at the bottom where
they list your CIP and NET: info. Just call them up at 888-262-6300 and ask for
it. Do you have an CIP number? In a terminal you could type nslookup <your
IP-address> and it should spit it out for you. Jim
