Is there a clipboard history utility in Gnome, similar
to klipper in KDE? I'm using klipper under Gnome,
but when it docks to the panel, it disappears.
The clipboard history is available however, when
I press the hot-keys.

I have both Red Hat Linux and Corel Linux installed on my machine.

I want to have both an external, and private IP address on my machine to
enable me to access my Intranet Website, 192.168.0.*

In NT, this is child's play, but I am interested in learning Linux, and
other OS's for that matter, and would like to know if it is possible to
have two IP addresses assigned to one NIC

ctrl-alt-kbd+ and ctrl-alt-kbd- to scroll through video modes
ctrl-alt-F1, ctrl-alt-F2 etc to switch to a text console, then
alt-F1, alt-F2 to switch text consoles and alt-F7 or something to

to change the initial startup edit /etc/inittab and change

IPSec (FreeSwan 1.5) is compiled into the kernel; there are no modules
with the exception of the security module.

I've installed the RedHat 6.2 in a Intel PIII dual CPU machine, but
I found very strange system clock problem. Here are the problem:

% uname -a
Linux hqlx13.ust.hk 2.2.16-3smp #1 SMP Mon Jun 19 19:00:35 EDT 2000 i686 unknown
% date
Sat Oct 14 08:01:22 HKT 2000
% touch file1
% ls -l file1
-rw-r--r-- 1 3987 1563 0 Oct 14 00:01 file1
% date -u
Sat Oct 14 00:01:36 UTC 2000

When I type a 'date' command, it show the correct clock value in HKT timezone.
However, when I 'touch' a file, the file creation time 8 hours before the local time.
It seems that it is the UTC time.

Does anyone have idea how I can fix the problem.

Thanks

On a stock RedHat 6.1 system that's not the answer. It's a simple addition of a
line to /etc/conf.modules that fixes it.

Yes, using the command:

/sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

Where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is the IP you want to assign to the eth0 device,
substitue eth1 if this is the SECOND eth device (i.e. second NIC), use
high numbers after the ethX: to add more IP's.

To make permanent add this command to the end of your
/etc/rc.d/rc.local. I think that linuxconf even allows you to assign
additional IP's as well under SERVER TASKS, IP ALIASES FOR VIRTUAL
HOSTS.

Well I was trying to,
I went to the sbin directory and typed in
linuxconf like I thought I should and it did not find it.
I typed in linuxconf-auth (I think) and it ran a config program

If the install did not detect my NIC or sound card how do I add it?

Hi,
If I try to telnet/rlogin or ping from myhost to myhost,
I get a error message:
Unable to connect to remote host: Network is unreachable
This is not a DNS problem either.
There is no problem telnet/rlogin or ping from OUTSIDE myhost.

What can be the problem? do I need to rebuild any package, or is it
simpler than that..? Because of this I cannot set up a NFS server on
myhost.

Any suggestions appreciated..
Thank you.

Not enough info but this sounds like normal behaviour.

A rootkit is a set of programs for breaking in to a system and
installing programs so you can break in again.

Try typing in the whole path, e.g. /bin/linuxconf.
You can also setup the NIC ysing the netconf program.
To find commands on the system use the whereis program e.g.:

[root@zephyr]# whereis linuxconf
linuxconf: /bin/linuxconf /usr/lib/linuxconf /usr/include/linuxconf
[root@zephyr]# whereis netconf
netconf: /bin/netconf

good luck!

Somebody must be seen this..

We have:
    - RedHat 7.0 (the same with 6.0)
        - xinetd (inetd in 6.0)
        - imap (used only for POP3)

While userxx's mailbox /var/spool/mail/userxx is empty (0 bytes), POP3
client (Netscape)
runs very quick (immediately). Since there is something in that file
(e.g., only system message "DO NOT DELETE THIS MESSAGE"),
POP3 client stay for 2-3 seconds with "Host contacted: Sending login
information".
The same symptoms with pine working on server directly (POP3 cannot
disturb):
if /var/spool/mail/userxx is empty, pine open inbox very fast, if not -
waiting for ~2sec.
The problem described above does not affects root.

Where could be a solution for such delay?

Thanks in advance,
Arnis

Hi
download the latest modutils
or as root add the following line at /etc/conf.modules
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
save /etc/conf.modules
type
modprobe lp
If this doesn't work

I am having a really strange XF86 problem. I wanted to disable 3D
acceleration on one of my machines so the screen isn't constantly
flickering, so I tried commenting the load "DRI" module out of
XF86Config-4 and restarting X using ctl-alt-BS. It worked great.

HOWEVER....

When I reboot, X does not come up. If I go into XF86Config-4 and
uncomment the DRI line and tun startx, it works great.

Any ideas?

well, i've *pretty much* got it going at this point.
using the switchdesk command from the terminal window did nothing at
all.

so, using the info from bluster i was able to track down the files i
needed to modify and futz around with them until i can now load into
either kde or gnome.

however, i now have a new 'problem' (it's not a big deal, just
bothersome). switchdesk still doesn't really work for me. i edited
following files in my home directory

.Xclients
.xinitrc

to point to kde, but if i switchdesk to gnome (works ok), i can't
switchdesk back (stays in gnome - no matter what). i think i know why
this is happening, but i'm not entirely sure how to fix it.
apparently once in gnome it stays in gnome because that's the setup in
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
switchdesk renames the file
/[user]/.xinitrc
to
/[user]/.xinitrc.switchdesk (thus causing it to use the default gnome
from the /etc/X11/xinit directory ? )...

any suggestions on how i can fix this would be appreciated.
