Boot up into DOS and type
FDISK /MBR
then
FDISK (and erase all "other" partition types -- create new DOS
ones)
Then proceed with the Windows98 Setup.

This is usually caused by being inside Windows (or any other OS0 and
doing a soft reboot. The Plug-and-Pray setup will be broken and
anaconda is unable to deal with it. If you install Linux from a cold
start (no power) then it will work just fine.

Hmmm, does it work in console mode? (gpm)

That shouldn't have any effect on the mouse.

Take a look at the XF86Config-HOWTO, you will have (probabily) to
tinker your configuration into the XF86Config file.

If you are using grub, try to get into single user mode. (I don't know, I
am RH7.0 user)
If you are using lilo, try to get into single user mode at the lilo prompt
lilo: linux single
Or else hit
Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get you into text mode.
You will have all the time in the world to fix your video configuration

Use the Linux fdisk to remove the partition, then repartition them with
the DOS/Windows fdisk and reformat them using DOS/Windows.
If you have LILO installed remove it using fdisk /MBR.

Hi there folks,
I have been mucking around trying to setup sendmail and procmail for a
few days now and have hit another snag.
I have my own domain registered and mail is bounced from those
addresses to my one ISP account, so I need to masq my outgoing names
to the IP's domain to keep sendmail sweet.
Now, I have just discovered that not only is it changing the envelope,
but its changing the Reply to address to be the [EMAIL PROTECTED] rather
than [EMAIL PROTECTED] which the mail program is putting out.
How do I stop this?

Check www.linmodems.org to see if that winmodem is supported. Right now
those winmodem
with PCTel, Lucent chipset are supported.
I have a feeling that winmodem is useless under linux.
I would recommend writing to the manufacturer to support this winmodem
under linux.
Under pressure to show they support linux, IBM has released linux drivers
for the previously useless MWAVE winmodems. So there is hope.

fdisk? Why would fdisk even know about LILO?
LILO will warn you itself

Which RedHat? 6.x versions definitely complain, and even prevent
you from creating /boot above cyl. 1024 (which was very annoying)

Only if you resize/move hda1
Partition magic is very good at this, although non-free.
A free alternative is GNU's parted.

It's all *your* fault.
My system never gets trashed through LILO and I think it's a great
bootloader

But you will need a lilo v21.4.3 or above to boot from a position
on cyl. 1024 or higher.

When you link in the SCSI device into the kernel you no longer need initrd
and because you linked it in there won't be separate SCSI module to
include in initrd.
So therefore, just drop the initrd from lilo.cfg; that is, for the new
image -- you do need the old initrd if you ever boot again from the
original kernel.
The initrd exists only for supporting all sorts of SCSI device drivers
with just one kernel image. In the bad old days you would need to
select the appropriate kernel from scores of images when installing
linux, but thanks to initrd that is no longer required.
