Way down near the bottom of your /etc/X11/XF86Config file you will see
all of the display sections. In the section that your X server is using
you will probably see a line like..

Virtual 800x600

Comment out that line. Restart the X server. Be parepared to bomb down
to a command line and restore the line to its original setting if it
doesn't work.

Eric,

In all fairness, I uninstalled, re-installed, removed, changed from the
MBR to the 1st sector, destroyed the entire install using the
"Quickinstall" script that Lilo provides...

but to answer your question... No... it did not.

And I guess to be percise, I'm not really running RH 7.0, but... as RH
7.0 + RH updates and RH updates and RH updates and RH updates and RH
updates... Just as Scott Nolde mentioned in his message above.

why do you not do a 'make dep' ?
also, just recently, i compiled a new kernel (from 2.2.15 to
2.2.17) mostly to makes sure all of my sound tree was intact. it fixed the
sound problem i had but it didn't compile in usb or cdrom support. my
2.2.15 directory has the cd and usb module directories but 2.2.17 does not.
as such, i cannot mount either of my cdroms. i'm more than certain (as i
did it 3 full times) that i answered all of the config questions
appropriately. also (in case this would help later) one is a TDK CDRW and
the other is an Acer DVD. but all i really want right now is to have them
usable as cdroms. they were before and now they're not. i'll play with the
advanced stuff later.

You know it is funny. But if you had sorted c.o.l.setup

I may be wrong but I believe that the problem stems from the mtrr settings
as well. When you compile your kernel for Dual Processing, you need to
ensure that the MTRR settings are the opposite of what you currently have.
Try that and see if it works.

The printer is a Okipage 10ex running on a Win95-box. With my previous

It sounds like your system has a timezone problem. Likely the system clock is
being set to UTC (where your CMOS clock is local time) or the TZ envvar is
incorrectly set.

I don't know what tools are available on Mandrake to manipulate the OS'

Well, you are right. Doesn't work for anonymous ftp anyways. I only created
accounts for different domain owners on the real server and used the "virtual"
directive in /etc/ftpaccess so that when they ftp into their own domains, they
are throw into their own webspace according to the domain name they used to
log in.

Sorry, I was bullshitting there. it has nothing to do with ftpaccess. It's
due to their different home dirs (which is also their web space) defined in
/etc/passwd.

Subject: gcc refuses cpp files Setup error ???
Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2000 20:19:51 +0200

My system runs on Suse 6.2 Kernel 2.2.10
My aim is to do some progamming under KDE.
This was the first time to utilize the compiler with my own code.
Compiling a new Kernel works o.k.
The compiler accepts files with a .c suffix e.g. hello.c but then
interprets them as C-code.

In the man-files cpp suffix should be accepted by the compiler but the
compiler reacts as you can see
the lines below.

gcc/home/..../hello.cpp -o hello -I$QTDIR/include
gcc/home/..../hello.cpp file not recognized: File format not recognized

Getting the version of the compiler causes the following lines:

gcc -v reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2.3/specs
gcc version 2.7.2.3

What do I do wrong ? Is there some confusion in the C-Libraries ? I did
already changes from egcs to gcc and vice versa. Nothing helps. Didn't
expect to have such difficulties.

Thanks for help in advance

Looks like something may be breaking the automatic filesystem size
determination part of mke2fs, perhaps it is reading bad info from the
partition table. :(

Well, I'm not exactly an expert, but...

Try formatting with the mke2fs program (not mkfs) and specify the
block size and block count on the command line so it skips the
auto-size part, see "man mke2fs" to find out how to do that.

From: Oliver Corff <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Bizarre Network Unreachable Issue on VAIO
Date: 26 Oct 2000 18:43:54 GMT

Dear Readers,

Now a me too: Network unreachable!

What happened:

I run RedHad 5.2 successfully on a Toshiba Libretto, using the 3com 589
PCMCIA ethernet adapter. My network is extremely simple, just a few
machines with 192.168.1.0 as network, 255.255.255.0 as netmask, and
all then in the range of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.32 . So far, so good.
The eth0 is configured with ifconfig (ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.20 in this
case), route gets a default entry, and everything is ok. I can ping to
my local file, X and application server located at 192.168.1.3, no
trouble, have had it like this for more than two years.

Enters a Sony VAIO N505SN, I installed RedHat 6.2, made sure that the
PCMCIA system works, inserted the very same network adapter card wich
I pulled out of the Libretto into the VAIO, issued the ifconfig comman
exactly as on the Libretto, the route gets updated as well, the routing
table shows default going to eth0, ifconfig shows that my eth0 is up
and running, I can ping myself (both at the loopback interface and my
own eth0 address), but pinging to 192.168.1.3 says: host Unreachable.

What kind of a problem is this? Is it hardware related (PCMCIA setup
conflicts with CDROM drive or whatever?)

I have taken care of my network at home for many years, never had *this*
problem; especially with respect to the fact that (apart from the version)
the VAIO should be a simple clone of the Libretto.

I should not forget to mention that the card is still working, as tested
both in the Libretto and the Windows98 installation still available on
the VAIO.

Thanks for any ideas,

Oliver.

/root/office52 - adabas does not seem to want to install. I get this problem
when I login as a normal user and tried to setup office for this new user
id. Note: I ran /mnt/cdrom/linux/office52/setup /net tto setup multiuser per
instructions and then login as normal user to install the user components.
Then I get an error saying that adabas is not installed and install fails.

Where should I install Staroffice 5.2? /usr/office52 or /var/ffice52 or
/root/office52 ????

Thanks

If a private caching dns server is considered a crime by
your local gestapo, it is high time to find a new job!
