Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario 3060 PC with a Logitech Cordless mouse attached
to it. The model type seems to be M/N:M-RC33. I think it must be a radio
mouse because I don't see any IR transmitter on the mouse or IR receiver
on the PC. Under Windows it looks like it's attached on a serial port
(Serial 3, I think). I'd like to know if there's a way I can use this
mouse under Linux. I've tried setting up gpm and X using the serial
connection (I know it's serial 2 under Linux) but I get no response from
the mouse. Has anyone used one of these type mice? Any help would be
appreciated. I don't read this newsgroup frequently and would like it if
you could respond to my e-mail address, Thanks

depends on what windowmanager you are running since gnome doesn't have an
own wm.
With Enlightenment and WindowMaker it is more than easy to customize your
"desktop menus"

I have a cordless radio Logitech, no clue which model though...

Anyway, you did try to sync mouse and receiver by pushing their two
buttons simultaneously, did you?

This depends on your DSL provider. Typically, they will not provide you
with a static IP address unless you pay for it. If this is the case, then
you need your box to be able to be a DHCP client. The software "dhcpcd" (not
dhcpd) works well. You should be able to find it on freshmeat.net.

You could do fancy routing and stuff, but I would probably take the simpler
path and setup an easy script to shut down your dhcpcd deamon and reconfig
your interface for LAN use.

Good luck.

Subject: Problem with kernel-2.4.0-test9
Date: Tue, 7 Nov 2000 20:21:47 +0800

Dear sirs,
I've found I not the only one who find something's wrong with new kernel.
That is , When I build kernel 2.4.0-test9 on my PC with IDE disk , It's
all OK.
But When I build it on DELL 6450, SCSI/RAID on it, It's wrong.
When I use Redhat 6.2 , or when I build 2.2.17, everything's OK. all the
modules I need to add to the kernel is eppro100.o for NIC , aix7xxx.o for
SCSI and megaraid.o for RAID.
But when I download 2.4.0-test9, and config it with the same configuation
with before, It's wrong. it tell me:
   ....
Megaraid : v107 (December 22.1999)
Megaraid : found 0x8086:0x1960: in 03:0b.1
Megaraid : board configured for I2O,ignoring this card .Reconfigure the
card.
Medaraid : in the BIOS for "mass storage" to use it with this driver.
VFS : Cannot open root device "801" or 08:01
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic :VFS:Unable to mount root fs on 08:01

...
and system halted. I don't know what to do. I've selected the Ramdisk ,the
support of I2O, and not use the modules in the new kernel, I add all of the
modules into kernel. but nothing happened.
(when I try to rpm to new kernel from Redhat 7.0 by using the disc2, it's
all the same.)
Is there anybody can tell us something? thanks a lot!
if I cannot solve the problem, they'll choose the D- Windows 2k. I don't
wanna see it happened.
the most important thing is to make the Linux support 4GB RAM. is there any
other way except for waiting for the stable 2.4.0? thanks a lot!
   yours sincerely,
         Nick Cheng

a) You MUST also set up IP Masquarading (see the HOWTO) since the

b) you do not tell us what the output to
route -n
on the linux box is when the win machne is connected. It sounds like the
route is not set up properly.

You don't need to understand everything, but if it's a production system
you probably need to *test* before you install. Simplest is often to do
this on a separate system.

>2. Create any necessary site configuration build files, as noted in

Probably not. The README file mentioned (and the one in the directory
above) explains what you can do with them - if it doesn't make any sense
to you, chances are that you don't want to do those things...

If there is no README file, there's nothing to read:-) - just run Build.

>I read the README in devtools but I didn't understand it fully. What is
>siteconfig.m4 file?

It's a file where you can put m4-format definitions for the macros
listed in that README file (if ou name it site.config.m4 instead, Build
will use it automatically). Again, if you don't see a need for any of
the stuff mentioned in these READMEs, don't bother with it - the
defaults in devtools/OS/<yourOS>, picked up automatically by Build,
should be OK for a vanilla build on a vanilla OS.

I just completed the install of RH 6.2 on a harddrive where I already had
Win2K Server and ME.
I have Win2K and ME on the C: drive (bootable partition) and I put Linux
partitions (swap and native) on partitions behind C: (hda2 and hda3)

The install went smoothly and I chose to put LILO in the MBR, hoping to then
add info to allow LILO to boot into WinDoze. When I reboot it still goes
right into NTLoader, like LILO never got written to the MBR!? Anyone know
what went wrong? Is this some new "smart" feature of Win2K to auto-fix the
"damaged" MBR?

How can I fix this and make my system boot to LILO first? I've read the
dual-boot HOWTOs but they're all getting pretty obsolete now. Is there more
current info somewhere?

Thanks much for any help!

As well as the change from gcc to kgcc do the make mrproper prior to the

I had a similar issue to you and it was'nt until I started from scratch
I was able to compile the kernel.
