100x2 is the FSB(Front Side Bus) speed aka the speed that the cpu
communicates with memory.

33 is the pci bus speed aka the speed that all pci devices communicate.
33 is the normal speed.
Just don't change it.

I had this problem with SAX on both Suse 6.0 and now 7.0. The solution
seems to be to use the other X configuration tool -- name of which
escapes me now (I'm on a different machine).

Normally CTRL+ALT+BCKSPC should kill the X server.

It would because the system has not unmounted the filesystems in a clean
way. Cannot explain the seg faults though.

Hi Shutrbug,

take a look at www.iomega.com
They provide drivers for ZIPs, there's a README File in that packeges,
so you shouldn't have any problem stting up your drive

Subject: Missing /dev/hdaxx -> unknown filesystem after installation / boot
Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2000 22:54:52 +0100

PROBLEM:
After successfully installing suse7.0 with yast2,
/opt //dev/hda16, reiserFS) and /home (/dev/hda17, ext2fs) cannot be mounted
any more; the device entries in /dev are MISSING. ("special device not
found") - and this although there must have been data that have been copied
to those (installation with yast2 without errors, apparently)!!!
[/proc/partitions includes entries for hda16 and hda17.]

(Note: The reason why I have so many partitions is that on the same disk
there are Win98, Win2000 and data partitions.)

ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM:

In /etc/fstab there were WRONG ENTRIES as for the filesystem - which I've
corrected; besides, I added the missing /dev/hda16 and 17 entries manually
per mknod, chgrp and chmod - without any success: "bad magic number in
superblock" at both partitions.

(NO) REAL SOLUTION:
Create the concerned partitions INCLUDING filesystems, e. g. with the rescue
system, add missing /dev/hdaxx entries manually, after that force yast2 NOT
to format these partitions and install.

Who has some advice?

Ciao,

Ren

I installed an XFree86 4.0.1 CVS snapshot a few weeks ago to get past the faulty
DGA mouse issue. Now I have been reading dri.sourceforge.net and it recommends
getting the lastest DRI-CVS (Unreal Tournament is a bit slow here, but Quake3 is
good). My question is: is the 4.0.1 CVS I have installed the same as this
DRI-CVS? Does it lack DRI? (Quake3 gets +100FPS, but that's an OpenGL app.
Unreal Tournament's FPS doesn't even approach that which it gets in MS Windows).

Would you recommend I install from this DRI-CVS in order to boost Unreal
Tournament FPS?

TIA, etc.

If you can ping machines in local domain but not outside your
domain, it sounds to me like the packet don't find it's way out
from your LAN. How should it find it's way out? Default gateway!

I don't think this has anything to do with DNS (assuming you
use DNS server provided by your ISP). I suppose when you
do ping what_ever_external_host, ping does not show the
actual numeric IP address. That would indicate it could not find
the DNS host either, so it can't do the name to number mapping.

Check linuxconf =>networking => client tasks => routing and gateways
=> Set defaults => default gateway

I have seen this error before. In my experienc, ethe quickest
way to fix this is to use the linear optionwhen installing LILO. The
first thing you'lll have to do is reboot your system using a rescue disk.
Then, run the LILO command as follows

/sbin/lilo/ -l -v

That might solve your problem. This causes LILO to run in
linear mode -l, with verbose output -v, which allows you to se what the
LILO command is actually doing. That way, if you are still encountering
any odd problems while running LILO, this will allow you to see it on
screen and might just lead you to the root of the problem.

Reading between the lines of a few posts, I gather there are some IP
address ranges which are reserved for private use behind fire walls that
won't route across the Internet.

Am I correct in assuming that 192.168.x.x is one such address, that this
is a class B network and that 255.255.0.0 is the appropriate net mask ?

I think you'll find that this will show you matching lines from the
files, but not the names of the files they come from.

I once wrote a tool based on the above, but as far as I remember,
instead of calling grep directly, it called a little script with the
name of every directory. Fgrep was then passed directory/* and under
those circumstances, fgrep reported the name of the file as well as the
matching line.

I don't know anything about this drive, but the front looks DLT like to

Can anybody confirm this, and if so, what media does it use and is there
anything to chose between them ?

Is there backup software for Linux beyond tar and gzip ?

Nate,

I've got hardly any hair left after fighting with my NIC (3C509B). Ifconfig

Well since you asked. The reason I wanted to install 7.0 is I'm writing a book
on ecommerce development with Open Source Tools. The book will be published by
Addison Wesley last year. The book features ecommerce development on linux
based platforms using Mysql. Redhat 7 now includes MySQL so I just wanted to
see how the installation went right out of the box.

Obviously I'll be sticking with 6.2 for a while till Redhat gets this new
version sorted out.

Thanks for the feedback!
