Mesa comes with a number of demos... Xscreensaver and xlock both have GL
screensaver's. There are a number of game demos from Loki that use
hardware accelerated GL.

Subject: Kernel won't mount raid0
Date: 04 Dec 2000 01:29:50 +0100
Hi,
I really applied all my research abilities ;) for two days now. So, I
guess the following either does not work for some strange reason, or I
might be doing something blatantly wrong.
I have:
oo A RAID 0 array, identified in mdtab via
/dev/md0 raid0,16k,0,802eab69 /dev/hda3 /dev/hdc2
Made under slink, now runs without problems under potato+raidtools.
oo Kernel 2.2.18pre23 and Kernel 2.2.17pre6 (both tried), with the
necessary RAID options (raid0, boot) enabled. Not as modules of course.
oo The lilo setup looks like:
image = /vmlinuz
label = Orlok_Kernel
root = /dev/md0
read-only
vga=4
append="md=0,0,16,0,/dev/hda3,/dev/hdc2"
Note: the only parameter I am not really sure about is how to specify the chunk
size factor. However, I have tried several values. (16, 16k, 4, 8,...)
The kernel runs smoothly until it has to mount /. I.e., before, /dev/md0 gets
assembled correctly (literally the same messages as you get with raidtools), but
the mounting of / always fails with:
---
EXT2-fs error (device md(9,0)): ext2_check_descriptors: Block bitmap for group 64 not
in group (block 3670038)!
EXT2-fs: group descriptors corrupted!
---
The numbers can vary..
Althouh it looks like my fs is corrupted (or needs to be updated
somehow), this not the case, as I have currently set up a initrd
solution, which runs smoothly. The only difference seems to be the way
how /dev/md0 gets assembled, via kernel (no-no) or via raidtools (ok).
I would be delighted if someone could shine a light on me. Does it,
for example, work with newly made arrays (mine have been made under
slink)?
Thanks,
Stephan

waaaaaaaaaaah. Raid mirror root. Bad bad bad. Can you really do this?
It'd requires heaps of special support in the kernel! Where did you see
that you could? (Yes, *I* know that one can, with lots of prayer, but
it's not something that the random person in the street should assume
is just a normal situation that requires no effort).

Yes, well, not surprised. Go find a kernel that is guaranteed to do
raid mirror root, and set it up for it. You need at least::
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_MD=y
CONFIG_MD_MIRRORING=y
CONFIG_MD_BOOT=y
and possibly more.

Can you be more specific? I see no mention of them in any config file. It
isn't just that they don't work; they switch the display to an invalid mode
making it impossible to even return to the desktop. The only thing I can do at
that point is control/alt/del to reboot. Even control/alt/backspace doesn't
restore the display if I've hit c/a/F2-6.

I assume you have checked your mixer settings to make sure that cd audio
is not turned down.
Does it have the Yamaha sound chip? Did sndconfig recognize it, or did
you set it up as a Soundblaster Pro compatible (in which case cd audio
would not likely work). If it is Yamaha and was not recognized, Alsa has
modules for it or opensound.com has commercial drivers.

I have the Yamaha sound chip. I am using Mandrake 7.2 and it comes with ALSA.
Do you suggest that I compile the latest alsa and install it ? Sndconfig
recognized it but said it's incompatibe. I used harddrake (a mandrake utility)
to detect and configure ay sound card
Thanks.

Greetings,
I cannot mount the Linux partition on my first hd, /dev/hda.
Following is my fstab file:
/dev/hdb1 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb6 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb4 /home ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb2 /mandrake ext2 defaults 1 3
/dev/hda3 /slack1 ext2 defaults 1 4
/dev/hdb5 /redhat ext2 defaults 1 5
/dev/hda1 /dosc vfat defaults 1 0
/dev/hda5 /dosd vfat defaults 1 0
/dev/hda6 /dose vfat defaults 1 0
/dev/hdc /cdrom iso9660 user,noauto,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /floppy vfat user,noauto 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
the output from fdisk for /dev/hda follows:
Disk /dev/hda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 790 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Begin Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 1 131 1052226 6 DOS 16-bit >=32M
/dev/hda2 132 132 329 1052226 5 Extended

/dev/hda5 132 132 191 1052226 6 DOS 16-bit >=32M
/dev/hda6 192 192 329 1052226 6 DOS 16-bit >=32M
when the system boots and trys to mount the partitions; all partitions
except /dev/hda3 mount properly. (/dev/hda4 is blank at this time)
here is the error message that is produced:
mount: wrong fs type. bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda3, or too
many mounted file systems
I can get to the partition if I boot with the floppy created when I
loaded the new distro to /dev/hda3. I was able to format /dev/hda3
using fdisk. I can get to my other hd (/dev/hdb) with no problems when
I use lilo to start the distro sitting on /dev/hda3. Of course, the
second hd is nothing but Linux so I have no problems with it.
Could it be because I set the two Linux partitions on hda to bootable?
I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
(I tried to find some mention of this in previous posts but could not
find anything similar. I also read all the HOW-TO's that seemed to be
concerned with hard drives and LILO.)

Being a NFS newbie and learning it by setting up NFS across PLIP... I ran into
a similar mount problem that I "fixed" by using the "no-root-squashing" in the
exports file for the target resource.
What I think is happening is that the guid's aren't matching up and linux is
refusing to mount it. How to get down and alter the access permissions so that
the "fix" isn't necessary has eluded me also. I've tried about every chmod on
every possible directory and tweeked a "test" user access till I'm blue in the
face just thinking about it.... no luck.
If you figure out the "nice" way of setting permissions... please share them
with me? :')
TIA, Jerry

ifconfig plip0 desktop pointopoint laptop netmask 255.255.255.255
If the command finishes without an error... then do a
ifconfig plip0
This will printout whatever you have correctly configured.
Right here, you should be able to ping the other box whether you're on the
laptop or desktop (won't matter). This is a good way to test your setup. Ping
using both the hostname and dotted address... while you're at it, ping
localhost and 127.0.0.1 just to be sure.
If that fails... check the following files in /etc/: hosts, hosts.allow,
hosts.deny, nsswitch.conf, resolv.conf and exports. All of these are "touched"
during your manual setup for plip support... and you have to do it correctly.
The route command you mentioned above is not needed for plip.
Once you can ping "in both directions", you can setup NFS and mount directories
and do all kinds of neat stuff... :')
If you really, really run up against a brick wall... I'll zip up my plip setup
and a couple of notes I made and will send you a copy...
Cheers.
