Subject: php+mysql RPM for Redhat 6.2?
Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 10:04:11 GMT
Hello, I would like to install PHP with mysql database support on a RedHat
6.2 machine - I would like to use an RPM if possible so php may be more
easilly removed in the future if someone desires this. Does any know of such
an RPM and where I might be able to get it? Alternatively, is there a
procedure for getting the php source rpm for RedHat 6.2, adding additional
support (i.e. mysql) and re-creating a binary RPM and installing that?
Thank you very much,
Ivan Fetch.

As above ..
they occur in random places, and usually involve EOF errors. I've tried
grabbing the source from various places.
Basic install is Slackware 7. 2.2.13 as supplied works just fine, but
isn't complete for my needs.
Any ideas?

Hi EJ,
Thanks for your reply. I am running linuxconf and useradd as root.
I am using RH 6.1. I am also using shadow password feature. I added 3
users at the time of installing the system and found the three users were
assigned with the same name and id in the group file.
For example
UserName: user1 UserId:500 GroupName:user1 GroupId:500
If the /etc/group file got corrupted, how I can fix it. Is there any
command or only from backup??
Thanks,
KC.

Try setting TERM to vt102 instead. It won't be as fancy (e.g., no
colour), but the screen stays.

I have replaced a defect cyrix pr200 cpu with a pr166. Now Linux does

Do I have to recompile the kernel for this cpu?
Or will a replacement with a cyrix 300 help?

Hi victor
you will see the difference, when you mount a disk with long filenames
once as msdos and once as vfat.
mounting as vfat provides you with long names.
mounting as msdos uses the 8.3 - dos names.

to Display the full path, try one of these:
export PS1='\u@\h-$PWD > ' to display the full path (e.g.
/home/kevin/programming/perl)
export PS1='\u@\h-\w > ' to display the full path from your
home dir (e.g. ~/programming/perl)
btw: \u means user, \h is the host and \w is the working directory
$PWD is an environment variable that always holds the actual
directory
put one of these lines into your ~/.bashrc file and it will stay for ever

Subject: /tmp on unpartitioned device
Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 11:38:56 GMT
Hello all
Is there anything wrong/bad about not partitioning a disk before putting
a file system on it? All the man pages say is 'usually a partition'.
Here's why I ask...
My file systems were filling up, so I put an old 1Gb SCSI disk in place.
When I fdisk-ed it I was asked what the C/H/S config was, but I didn't
know.
On a whim I tried mkfs-ing the whole device, and it worked!
So, I've now mounted /dev/sda as /tmp, since I'm a little unsure if a
file system on a whole device is a good idea and if I'm going to lose
something /tmp is the best bet. I'll probably leave it there anyway,
/tmp on its own device seems like a fair idea.

don't care about partitioning. what you did is absolutely okay.
you won't lose anything.
I too don't know why all manuals talk about partitioning your harddisks.

Here's an idea you are not gonna like :) I have encountered this one
maybe 3,4 times. It has always turned out to be RAM somewhere. Either the
real ram, the cache on the mbd, someplace. On dualboot boxes, I have seen
this where winders would run without a hitch, but linux would NOT compile
anything non-trivial, and never bail out at the same place in the code.
I have no idea what does that, but the fix has always been other ram
sticks or other cache chips.

I am not an expert in these issues so I am not sure if this is of any
help to you, but yesterday I managed to get XFree86 4.0 installed on my
Redhat 6.0 machine using the binary distribution in
.../Linux-ix86-glibc21/.
Running the install script 'Xinstall.sh' I got the exactly same error
messages that you describe under 1). But they didn't seem to give any
problems later (at least none that I know of yet). I even got my ATI
Xpert 2000 graphics card running after manually editing
/etc/X11/XF86Config (the cardlist listed by 'xf86config' seems
incomplete but the 'r128' module recognizes my card).

Please help this newbie. For some reason all X screens come up in
portrait orientation. On my antique 14inch monitor (Gateway CrystalScan
1024NI) this means that parts of the KDE panel are invisible, that lots
of tabs and buttons are invisible unless I remember to move the display
with alt+cursor. I have read all the manuals, looked at Xconfigurator

You may have problems with >64M of memory. If the BIOS reports the true
amount of memory, but Linux only sees 64M, look for the 'ACPI Aware O/S'
setting in the BIOS, and set it to 'No'.
I have a K7M board and AMI BIOS from 1999. Other BIOSs may call the setting
something different.
Good luck,

This is the standard 64M problem. The best way to fix it (if your BIOS
allows) is to change the 'ACPI Aware O/S' setting to 'No'.
I have a K7M board and AMI BIOS dated 1999. Other BIOSs may call the
setting something different.
Changing LILO will work, if you get the syntax correct, but only until you
add/remove memory.

You could try the ipop3d, which is included in the imapd package on RedHat
based systems. But this will of course not allow you to use & or . in
usernames, as these are normal linux usernames.

Look at ftp.mysql.org. They have RPM packages. But the PHP coming with
RedHat does not compile the mysql module. You will have to fiddle with the
php.spec rpm-script.
I did so myself, and it is mainly uncommenting 5 lines or so (if I
remember correct).
