The explanation is the subtle BIOS features. If the primary partitions
does not end at a cylinder boundary, the BIOS might read and write the
disk wrong.

I don't know how serious this is, but I'd run a fsck on the partitions
you resized.
Did you make the partitions larger, or smaller (check their filling with

Subject: Where to get all keyboard keysyms names connected to visual character?
Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2000 11:10:20 +0100
Hello,
I am trying to set up my Czech keyboard, I use a special layout I am used to
from Windblows.
Non of the keyboards available in my SuSE distribution describe the layout I
use.
I already fixed most of the keys in my special keymap.
What I miss is the names of all keysyms conected to a character they
describe. ( to see it visually )
Something like I can get from "dumpkeys -l" but instead of the numbers to
see the actual character they describe.
@ at
# numbersign
~ asciitilde
but for all characters!
I miss things like - SAK, cedilla, grave, diaeresis, circumflex etc. - what
character do they describe??
Is there some command to print the character if I pass in the hex number??
I just cant set up the rest of the keyboard without having this.
Also in which file can I set up KDE to use proper font for my keyboard
layout? Something similar I set in
/etc/rc.config - console font, unicode map, screenmap, keymap ?? It works
for console but not for KDE.
Any hints very welcome

Help!!
I am a long time Descent 3 fanatic (Its a game! See www.lokigames.com) and
since last year I did some private "massive research" to find out which
control setup was "perfect" (at least for me).
So now my setup allows me to sit very relaxed even in insane dogfights since
I have every control need with millimeters of my finger. 99% of the time I
don't need to move fingers and I can slide, fire missiles and fire primary -
all at the same time since my controls have been split up between both
hands.
Now a problem has shown up which (I hope no) could mean the end of my gaming
under Linux (since I *only* play D3).
I recently purchase D3 for Linux from www.lokigames.com!
But:
I can't use the CAPSLOCK key for the afterburner function - under Win32 is
works OK. Under Linux it "sticks"!
That is: It keeps being activated when hit until you hit it again - a true
caps LOCK function ;)
HOW do I:
a) Make this key behave as under Win32...
b) Reassign the CAPSLOCK key?
Do you need to change some kernel stuff and recompile the kernel? Or can it
be done by simply changing something in a config file?
Help! Or my venture with Linux dies as soon as it begun ;)

Well, things are going relatively better. I eliminated some services
from my system and now I can even reach KDE 2 !
Here are the services I removed :
amd
atd
cfd
gpm
nfslock
postfix
rwhod
sybase
anacron
autofs
fetchmail
nfs
numlock
rawdevices
smb
However this is far from perfect. In fact, when I try to start a KDE
application it fails with a SIGSEV signal.
After some investigations I found that my localhost loop doesn't work !!
Here the result of a ifconfig -a command :
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:04:28:F4:02

Here is the result of ping localhost :
PING localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1): 56 octets data
--- localhost.localdomain ping statistics ---
90 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
(I stopped it with CTRL/C).
If I try to ping myself, but using the real host's name (which is
barmy), I obtain :
PING Barmy.popo.com (192.9.101.187): 56 octets data
sendto: No buffer space available
ping: sent 64 octets to Barmy.popo.com, ret=-1

ping: sent 64 octets to Barmy.popo.com, ret=-1
--- Barmy.popo.com ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
If I ping my machine from another box, it works perfectly. From my
linux machine I can also accessother hosts, surf the net, ftp, etc etc.
I can also login to my linux box from outside.
Therefore I think that the local loop is severely screwed.
Could you please help me ?

The December 2000 issue of Linux Magazine has an article about startup
scripts. It has a link to
http://www.njnet.edu.cn/info/ebook/os/linux/lsg15.htm
among others.
If you are wanting to modify the scripts themselves find some info on bash
scripting.
Before messing with this find an alternative way to boot, maybe a
boot/rescue floppy. Learn to use vi or whatever editor is in your
alternative and you will be able to fix your screw ups.

The most basic way to add some web security with apache, of course, is to just
add some authentication to your whole site. If you know any incoming info
about your "viewers" you could also just allow their IP, or domain also.
<Directory /document_root>
AuthName "Only my friends"
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /conf/psswd
Require valid-user
</Directory>
Does that help??
You can always allow them through at the firewall (by IP or something) and just
redirect the port, but keep track of which security is where.

These changes should be made in /home/<user>/.profile and
/root/.profile or /etc/profile. After making them, log out

sshd: no hostkeys available -- exiting.
I understand that I have to generate a private and a public key that must be
installed in /usr/..
Reading the man pages was very helpful about the connections etc but nothing
about the creation of the HOST'S key. Should I add the command "ssh-keygen"
in the init script or what?
