I've had some problems in the past with microsoft fdisk : it doesn't
always recognize correctly non-dos partitions. try booting under linux
with a rescue disk (maybe you can use your linux-install cd as a rescue
disk), and use linux fdisk which should be found in /sbin/ , in order to
erase the unwanted partitions.

hi,
seems like windows millennium edition doesn't allowd any more to exit to plain ms dos.
But i need to use fips in order to install linux, so i need help. i heard about a
patch (on
http://www.geocities.com/mfd4life_2000/mfddme13.zip), but i am a little bit afraid to
use it. can someone tell me:
if this patch really works, and does't cause damage to windowws
or:
is there another way to run fips (maybe just at the boot, without having to run
windows?)
thanx

Funny, i have been using linux only a couple of months and was able to
install wordperfect with no troubles....I follwed this step by step and
it worked fine for me.........
1.copy the main file, guilg00.gz into a seperate directory
2. gunzip <filename>; tar -xvf gui00
3. ./Runme
This will bring up the graphical install program
4. after install, to start the application, use
<path to application>/wpbin/xwp &
Voila!

Sure. In the same sense that Microsoft's "Whistler" exists and
is usable. If you're a bleeding-edge kind of person and don't
mind taking chances with a beta release, go for it. But
regardless, the current stable kernel is still 2.2.18.

There is a configuration script to let you do that but I forget what it's
named. But basically, all you have to do is edit these files manually:
/etc/hosts
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/sysconfig/network
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
If you are hosting virtual sites (probably not), also change:
/etc/sysconfig/ipaliases

Someone gave me an old SB16 sound card (really don't know that much more
about it)
I am running TurboLinux 6.0.7 and I have tried finding information on installing
this card at sites like linuxdocs.org and linuxnewbie.org but both sites seem
to deal with newer models of sound cards.
Can someone point me to a source for setup and config info on the Net?

Netscape has a "browser only"/navigator version; surprisingly, I only just
found that the "latest" version of navigator for linux is 4.76 and not
4.08. I didn't want the composer/newsreader/mail/aol stuff; and ns 6
doesn't provide the ability to set the "cookie" to readonly (with "managing
cookies" one still must delete it).

If star office doesn't specifically support your printer, then you will probably
have
to do something like I did. Choose a postscript printer and use the save to file
option so your output goes to a postscript file. Then you can use ghostscript
to print the postscript file on your printer. I wrote a script that checks the
directory
every minute and prints then deletes any *.ps file it finds there.

Hi Folks!
Sorry for my bad english. Because of this, i've written the text in german
too. maybe, you need it to understand, what i'll try to explain.
Today, I've copied the first 2 cd's of SuSE Linux 7.0. As I tried to install
it, yast (1 and 2) tells me, that I haven't the right cd inserted. I think,
that's because, I named the cd different from the original, and didn't do a
1:1 copy. I just copied the files, that were on the CD.
Now I want to know, how I have to name the CD, so that SuSE Linux 7.0 will
accept it. Or is there anything else to do?
OK. so long, thak you
Sebastian Steinmetz
Moin Leute also nochmal auf deutsch:

I had problems with gnome and related files in RH 7.0, so I just
decided to build them from scratch- I rpm -e 'd all the packages
including glib and gtk+, which I later compiled from tarballs. However,
I went to rebuild some redhat packages that claimed a dependency on gtk
like control-panel or modem-tool or anyone of the gtk/python scripts
that makes up RedHat. I found the SRPM and did a rpm --recompile and got

So, it looks like it worked fine and sticks an RPM in
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/control-panel-3.18-2.i386.rpm
I try to install it rpm -hiv and of course it claims failed

rpm --hiv --nodeps and it installs. However, now when I run
"control-panel" my X server crashes violently with a signal 11. What
could be the cause of this and how can I reinstall the RedHat stuff
without completely reinstalling RedHat?
AARRRRGGGHH!

Yeah, I had my palm pilot working great for several months, but since I
set it up just that one time, hell if I can remember how exactly I did
that (should've taken some notes)
If I recall, I added a "dev" I think, like S?0 or something, then added
an s link called "pilot" to the serial (S?0) device.
Anyone can fill in the blanks for me?? These little things really piss

Hi,
Copy the following files to a floppy:
- C:\Windows\Command\Ebd\io.sys
- C:\Windows\Command\Ebd\command.com
Now you can boot from floppy and acces your harddrive to run FIPS.
It's that easy !

Hi james and all the others,
well, I tried it the way you suggested...however, still the same=20
result...
but there seems to be an ongoing discussion in regard of my issue=20
somewhere else and I will try to get an answer...
in any case, thx for your assistance ;-))
btw: I didn't want to initiate any discussion on netscape as being a=20
useful browser or not. I experienced opera as well as other browsers on =
linux...I even was quite happy with netscape 4.76!
the reason I installed ns6 was the promised ability to manage more than =
one single simple pop3 account and I never found out, why netscape until=
=20
now was not able to provide such a feature...
