I currently have an external ZyXEL Omni TA128 using standard AT
command set working perfectly under OS/2 to my ISP.
I just installed RedHat 7.0 on the same PC with a
dual boot.
I am trying to configure the TA128 to work with Linux. I used
the same initialization string as with OS/2 and the terminal
replies OK and the DTE 1 DTR light comes on.
I found a reference in the modem documentation for a
standard UNIX register - &C1. Does RH use this standard instead
of what I use with OS/2? I have tried all these combinations:
ATDT 817-317-0100
ATDT8173170100
ATDT 817-317-0100 &C1
ATDT8173170100&C1
ATDI 817-317-0100
ATDI8173170100
ATDI 817-317-0100 &C1
ATDI8173170100&C1
All respond with No Carrier, I'm assuming the No Carrier is
caused by incorrect AT command. As soon as I reboot to OS/2, it
works fine. Is there really a difference between the command set
for Linux and OS/2, and if so what is it?
Thanks for any help

You should use the framebuffer for console. Then you can choose a
framebuffer resolution at startup (via kernel command line, see
Documentation/fb/...) or use the fbset program to change the console's
resolution easily. Using it in a startscript may be the best solution.

The kernel modules load OK on my system, but the sound quality sucks big
time. Comment out the lines in /etc/modules.conf dealing with sound and
install the alsa drivers. www.alsa-project.org. Get them loaded by adding
the following to the bottom of /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
modprobe snd-card-via686a
modprobe snd-pcm-oss
aumix -v100 -w100
/proc/asound/sndstat still indicates that Synth devices are not enabled but
the sound quality of RealPlayer is pretty good.

This could be your problem. 2.4.2 was known to be buggy and could - IIRC
- result in FS corruption. Upgrade to 2.4.4.

Using squid 2.3STABLE4 works fine in netscape 4.77. It does not work in
Konqueror 2.1.1.

Eh, I have forced proxy, so I cannot - but to me it seems like a browser

You could also select some other vga resolution. I have a nice 132x50
chars vga mode (it's mode 9 with my video card). Try to boot linux with
'linux vga=ask' at the lilo prompt.
When you have found a good resolution, put 'vga=xx' (where xx is the
number, you chose) in lilo.conf and rerun lilo.

read the FDU HOWTO as wayne suggests and you can try--
=======================cut
Netscape*DocumentFonts.sizeIncrement: 10
Netscape*documentFonts.xResolution*iso-8859-1: 140
Netscape*documentFonts.yResolution*iso-8859-1: 140
=============================cut
Add this to your " .Xdefaults " file in your home
directory. Play with the "140" size to improve your
document fonts.
FDU is quite helpfull in this regard.

Help you what? Many people will be able to help you. To all of them,
you will have to give help yourself: print the conmmands you are
executing and the error message, EXACTLY as it appears on screen. Add
output from dmesg as appropriate.
To start with, what are you doing exactly when you are "accessing my
cdrom or floppy". What is the command?
For diagnosis of your floppy problem, show the error message (dmesg)
that results from "dd if=/dev/fd0 of=/dev/null count=100".

Hellow.
In primary partition is placed Win NT with NTFS. Far behind 1024 cylinder in
the extended partition is installed Red Hat Linux ( 3 logical partitions ).
So dual booting from hard drive possible only if NT Loader can run
Linux(Lilo was installed to Linux partition and now loads with floppy.)
Attemptions to use the approach described in HOW-TO were unseccessful -
command
dd if=/dev/hda2 of=/bootsect.lnx bs=512 count=1
on my comp made boot image with zeros ( 512 zero ).
May be somebody also can explane where is placed Linux partition boot sector
and LILO in my case - Linux has been installed in logical partitions.

Hello!
I'm using lilo 20 in that config.:
hda1: os/2 (fat) (on 1.5 gb hd)
hda2: lilo
hdb1: win98 (on 40 gb hd)
For windows, lilo swaps the 2 hard disks.
I tried to use the partition - set commands in lilo to hide the os/2
partition from win98, but as soon as a I boot win98 from lilo, it says
nothing and hangs up. lilo says "Loading 1" before. If I comment out the
partition-set commands in lilo.conf, win98 boots without any problems. It
even doesn't care wether hda1 has a fat abel or not.
Can anyone help me?

Get and install the mozilla-fonts:
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/mandrake/8.0/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/mozilla-fonts-20000310-6mdk.noarch.html
If you use xfs, add the directory /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/mozilla-fonts to
the catalog in /etc/X11/fs/config. If you don't use xfs, add the directory
to the Section"Files" in XF86Config.
To have X read the new fonts
# xset fp+ /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/mozilla-fonts
# xset fp rehash

This sounds fairly good to me. You could go for a dual AMD mobo and run 2
x Duran's (Duran-Duran - sorry for the 80's joke!)
Also, considered over-clocking the Duron ? Should do close to 1Ghz with
the right motherboard.

Thank you very much! I have added these lines in lilo.conf and now I can

Still I wonder where I can find more information about this parameters
because I have search different FAQ and read the man page from lilo.conf but
no information about these parameters.
