Hi jesse,

the problem is due to the IP address . Change the ip address to something
like 128.0.0.1

According to ipv4 the address starting with 204 are used for the
internet

if the problem still exist please feel free to contact me at

Date: Mon, 25 Dec 2000 18:50:59 GMT

I've had a similar experience. I have properly installed SuSE 7.0 on my SCSI
disk.

I have had to force Linux to put the LILO on this disk, since it assumes my
IDE disk is the primary (it isn't, I guess it misinterprets my intentions
coz'I booted from CD-rom (also SCSI) when installing Linux).

When booting afterwards, BIOS set to Boot from SCSI again, SCSI device 1
(disk) as bootable, I get LI followed by repeating 01 01 01 01 ... (till the
cows come home).

My WinMe partition (the first on the same disk) refuses to boot also. When I
rerun Linux Install it does however 'see'a windows partition is present too.

Recreating a LILO boot diskette with Yast or YasT2 does not seem to fix
this.....

Tips are welcome, pref. to : [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Use the part.exe you can find here

http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/

Works great, I think and allows to set part's as Linux (EXT2F)

Thanks God! I reinstalled my notebook with Red Hat 7.0. This time I add
vga=ask to LILO. Then (without re-compiling), I can input 317 to choose
1024x768-76. Then I manually link X to XF86_FBdev (spelling correct?).
And then I copy the XF86Config from
http://www.in.tum.de/~clemens/XF86Config Now I can run X window in my
notebook. Although its mid-night at my place, I am too excited to sleep.

I have finally installed RedHat 7 on a disk connected to a Promise IDE
controller card. (I needed to type linux ide2=xxx,xxx ide3=xxx,xxx and it
finally installed on the drive). I chose not to install Lilo on the MBR but
on start of the install disk (hdg). I created a boot disk and everything
works. However I cannot boot linux. I had linux chosen as the default boot
and though that when I put the boot disk in it would boot from hdg. However
the boot disk makes it boot into Win98.

I get absolutely nothing coming up at startup, not even a LILO prompt. Apart
from the extra boot parameters at install time everything else is standard.
Any ideas what I can do to boot this thing. I had thought of modifying
lilo.conf to but the ide2 and ide3 options in but I cannot edit get access
to anything. Anyone give me any ideas?

Thanks

I'm running RedHat 7 on a Tyan Trinity 400 (S1854) mobo. I have 96MB of
RAM and an Intel Pentium-II 400MHz processor.

I've recently switched almost completely over to Linux but the
performance of the system has been disappointing thus far. Everytime I
loaded Windows everything seemed to load and boot faster.

After recompiling the kernel there still didn't seem to be any
improvement. Then, lo-and-behold, in KDE and Gnome the system
information screens show a Celeron (Covington) CPU with 0 cache!

I know I have a PII 400 w/ 512k cache so what can I do to make it
recognize the CPU correctly and utilize all its features?

My BIOS settings have both L1 and L2 caches enabled. My BIOS reports the
CPU as a PII 400 w/ 100MHz bus using 100MHz RAM.

I don't think they even sold Celeron 400's without any cache.

I'm frustrated! Can ya tell? At this point Windoze is really a speed
demon.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

This is my second posting. Since my first posting I have downloaded
the latest ftape software, compiled and installed it with the same results.
I have recompiled the kernel and got the same results.

I really need the tape drive to move alot of source from my original Linux
machine to the new one.

The [EMAIL PROTECTED] does not exist. I have tried sending
mail to that address and get mail back that the user does not exist.
I sent mail to the developer and have not received an answer.

I would like to ask for help in installing the ftape load module.

I just finished loading Linux 2.2.13 and it seems to be running fine.
I them loaded the ftape.o module to enable the tape drive and tried
the "mt" command with no success.

I have tried everything I can think of with no success, hopefully someone
can come up with a definitive answer.

The following is the sequence I completed.

insmod /lib/modules/2.2.13/misc/ftape.o
lsmod
Module Size Used by
ftape.o 104116 0 (unused)
mt -f /dev/rft0 retension
/dev/rft0: No such file or directory

I ran ls -l of the /dev directory looking for the rft devices and they were
listed as follows:
crw-r----- 1 root disk 27, {0-7} {n}rft{0-7}

Hello,

I have a routing problem with my internet server.
On the server there a two networkcards installed. Both cards have a internet
connection. On one card there is a line free internet traffic. For the other
card we must pay a lot.
Http request have to go through the pay-line all other traffic with the
other internet-line.

eth0 pay ---------------|
http requests | Linux Server
                                     |
from the internet |
                                     |
eth1 free ---------------|
ftp, ssh, telnet requests

How can I setup a rule so that the ethernet cards are listing to their own
ip-address. The default route program can't do this I believe. I have read
the iproute howto but I can't build the route table because the parameters
are not the same...

I run on a RedHat 6.2 server with kernel 2.2.17

When you made linux the default boot, did you make the linux boot partition
active?
Is linux boot below 1024 cylinders?
I made 16M /boot partition and made it active and it is the first partition and
applied lilo to the /boot partition
instead of the windows partition.

# just a guess what to do with /etc/lilo.conf

Hi
u have an interesting problem. I think this can be achieved by ip-forwarding.
read the ipchains howto.
I have a question:
Does this rule apply while using the net from this machine only or does this
machine act as a gateway for other machines too.
If u want to use ipchains, u might need another network card on the machine. u
can certainly use ip forwarding to selectively forward stuff based on the ip
address, but based on type of service( http, ftp etc) I really dont know.
However, ipchains supports forwarding which I think is the solution for ur
problem. Do tell me how u solved the problem if and when u do it.

KAR.

Pls check the boot sequence. I think u have not set floppy in the boot
sequence. This can be done by entering the bios setup during the bootup
sequence of the comp. usually u will be prompted to press Del or F1 or
something like that do enter the BIOS setup. There, set the boot sequence to
floppy and then Hard disk. That should solve ur problem.
