Does anyone have any experience configuring virtual email domains for
sendmail? I am trying to use my server (one linux machine) to accept mail
for my domain **and** my friend's domain as well. I have Red Hat 6.2 and
used linuxconf to add the virtual domain but I still haven't produced my
desired result. Can anyone offer some direction before I dive headlong into
sendmail configuration files?

Thanks, Mark

Uh.... Mebbe I'm smokin crack again, but I don't think it'd be really fair
to compare a dual-proceesing P-II-400 to a single Athlon.... First off, the
dual processors are going to push all IO faster. That will affect memory
access, hard drive access, etc.

Second, unless you've got both motherboards BIOS' set up identical (or as
close as possible) you're going to see performance differences anyway.

Just my two cents.

I have yet to see any unix or linux system where the user's mailbox is
not created the first time someone sends some mail to it. So you send
some mail to schmoe and the mailbox file will spring into existense.

I want to mount in my directory /home with autofs (3.1.4-4 and linux
redhat 6.1 ) from my NIS map (auto.map).
My auto.master file is the following:

/home yp:auto.home

I have verified that auto.home exists (with ypcat -k auto.home).

But it seems that nothing was mounted in home, and i have not any error
message... Autofs works well because others directories are well
mounted.

So, what happens?

Thank you very much.

I think the sendmail of "mydomain.com" is the problem.

Sendmail will get a mail for "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and normally does not know
anytithing about that domain or user at that domain.
So sendmail retruns "unknown user".

You must tell sendmail to take the mail for "otherdomain" and route it to
"user@mydomain".
I think there is the "Special routing tables" featuer for that, but I am not
shure.

I have Linux Mandrake 7, kernel 2.2.14-15 with a Pentium II chip. I
have both the TV and teletext software that come with Hauppauge WinTV
Nicam PCI card running fine in Windows 98.

I would like to install software in Linux that will make this card work
in Linux as well.

Since this operation can adversely affect my Windows 98 setup, I am
appealing to anyone who has successfully installed this card on their
Linux to write down what they learnt in detail in this newsgroup. I
refer to both the TV and teletext applications of the card.

I know about the bttv mini-HOWTO but aside from this, I still need to
know details that only someone who has successfully installed this card
can supply.

Thank you.

Subject: LILO probs having deleted /boot....
Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2000 12:54:01 +0100

Hi guys,

I'm new to list and could use help with a prob I'm having on my box, a
scratch-compiled (http://www.linuxfromscratch.org) system running kernel
2.2.16 and using glibc-2.1.3.

While recompiling the kernel I thought I'd have a bit of a clean-out. During
this I went into /boot and thought "Hmmm, the boot.0310 etc files are
bootsector backups, and I'm about to get a shiny new image and System.map,
so I might as well delete the lot."

After compiling the kernel I copied it and System.map into /boot and tried
to run lilo - which complained about the lack of /boot/boot.p and aborted.
Lilo version is 21.4 I think.

Two queries: (1) How can I fix this? (2) Why is boot.p needed anyway? I was
under the impression that it contains a copy of the current bootsector, with
boot.0310 etc as old bootsector backups - so why does lilo need it to
*generate* a bootsector?

Any help you can provide much appreciate.

Brgds,
Iain C

I would like to use the dynamic Motif version of Netscape rather than

        libXm.so (libc6) => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so

What do I need to do to get this to work?

This is probably a no-brainer, but I'm just a newbie:

Having just installed varoious things ('plugger' for netscape 4.7, and

If someone could point out what might need attention soon, I'd be VERY

boot.b IS the lilo loader. The first 512 bytes of that file is copied
to the boot sector after the sector addresses of the rest of boot.b
has been patched into it.

Re-install the lilo package to fix this situation.

Hope to be able to help you.....

We have configured a server that fetches its mail from a POP3 server.
Sendmail distributes it to the user's mailboxes. It is quite simple: just
run "fetchmail --smtphost <servername>". Fetchmail will then deliver all
mail to this host.

X-Windows is nice to play around with, but it is much too easy to damage
Gnome with an "accidental" keystroke or mouse movement. If Linux people
are really serious about competing, there would be a movement to write
setup programs that allow users to choose applications and menus without
the nuisance of direct editing.

Subject: [Help] Setting up 2.2.16: Problems with modules symbols and power down
Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2000 20:27:28 +0200

Hi all,
I've just grabbed the latest stable kernel version (i.e. 2.2.16). I've
configured (properly?), compiled, and installed it. It's running fine,
except for two annoying issues:
        a) When booting up, depmod complains of undefined symbols in several
modules. I suppose it's due to a missing module-file, but how to
generate that file? I have set on the three options for "Loadable module
support", namely: "Enable loadable module support", "Set version
information in all symbols for modules", and "Kernel module loader".
Then make dep, make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install.
Finally, copy bzImage and System.map to /boot, adding entries to
lilo.conf, and executing lilo.
So can you tell me what am
I missing?
        b) The second issue is a minor detail. When 'halt' is commanded,
everything is done all right except the last step, namely, actually
powering down the machine. I don't know why because the BIOS does
support the programmed power down and the previous kernel (2.2.14) did
power down the machine.
        Thanks for your help.

        Cheers!

        Jos Manuel

Subject: Kernel 2.2.16 under RedHat 5.1
Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2000 15:02:49 +0200

Hallo,
I'm using a fresh installed RedHat 5.1 (Intel) distribution. I downloaded
Kernel Source 2.2.16 and 2.2.14 and compiled both:
make xconfig
make dep
make clean
make bzImage / make zImage

make bzImage and zImage displayed the error that ld couldn't found
"entry.o".
What's going wrong ? Have I to use another glibc version or another compiler
?

Thanks.
