Hhahahhhhhaahahaha... Windows has a monopoly because its flexible?! Not
a chance. Windows has a monopoly because of intelligent marketing.
Windows 3.1 was an absolute pile of you know what. OS/2 blew it away,
yet because IBM couldn't market themselves out of a paper bag, and
Microsoft knew how to market, 3.1 was far more popular.

I suppose you think being an MCSE is a good thing too right?

Yow. I'm getting a new PC next summer, I guess I had hoped to consider
both the ATI (fan since the Mach64) as well as the NVidia. Do all the
NVidias work well?

Maybe some people use Microsoft "operating systems" because of the games,
only. And they use Linux for work. So if they're getting a new game FOR
GAMES, they also want to make sure it does X well also.

I have the same problem with RH7, that link says nothing about sr_mod. I
followed those instructions carefully, now cdrecord -scanbus reports ok

Cdrecord 1.9 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jrg Schilling
Linux sg driver version: 2.1.38
Using libscg version 'schily-0.1'
scsibus0:
 0,0,0 0) 'MATSHITA' 'CD-ROM CR-586 ' 'KS15' Removable CD-ROM
 0,1,0 1) 'HP ' 'CD-Writer+ 8200 ' '1.0f' Removable CD-ROM
...

Problem, my matshita is a cd reader, and I can't mount it anymore. Same
for the CD-Writer.

for cd-writer it says:

[root@local /etc]# mount /mnt/cdrom1
mount: block device /dev/cdrom1 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom1,
or too many mounted file systems

and for the matshita:

[root@local /etc]# mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom,
or too many mounted file systems

I've set the link for cdrom1 to /dev/scd1

Any idea.....
Do I have to rebuild the kernel like?
I don't have sr_mod preinstalled, is it really required?

By the way, it worked directly after the install with my previous Mandrake
7.0 installation.

Thanks!

When you set the proxy, do you try to use the automatic proxy
configuration or the manual?
When you are using the automatic proxy configuration you need to be
online and the proxy needs to support automagic configuration. Otherwise
use manual proxy configuartion and select the correct hostname and
portnumber. The one used may not be default.

I installed RedHat Linux 6.2 recently. When compiled and tried to execute a
simple C program, I got the following error - "bash: a.out: command not
found."

I compiled my HelloWorld program using gcc as follows: gcc simple.c (no
erros were reported)
Then, I checked a.out attributes, they were -rwxr-xr-x.

What can be wrong? Why doesn't it execute?

Please, help. TIA :)

suits the needs of many other computer users for whom the games you

Have you put your user domain into Pine?

Go Setup/Config (in Pine) and it's the second
item in that list. If I understand your
question right, you don't have a sendmail
problem, you just have to tell Pine
you're at unlisys.unlisys.net, or
wherever you actually are.

I use Pine and sendmail also, and I've
never had to do a thing to sendmail.

> and is it possible to have more
than one mailaddress on the

use 3 different mail accounts.

I collect mail from two different mail
accounts with fetchmail. Setting that up
is totally easy, just read the man page
or go to fetchmail's web site. You will
be editing ~/.fetchmailrc and writing a
poll line for each mailserver.

If you are trying to send mail out through
a particular account, I can't help you
because I just send mine through whatever
one I'm connected to at the moment.

If you just want to edit your reply-to
line so people's return replies arrive at your
correct mailbox, there's an option for
that in Pine, much farther down the option
list I referred to earlier.

If you can't get Pine to do what you want,
you could also try Mutt. It's more configurable.

The "netscape" command launches a script file, rather than an
executable. Find this script, and the homepage should be in there
somewhere. It is on my Mandrake 7.1 box.

use fdisk to edit your MBR

fdisk /mbr

thats it!!
that should get rid of lilo and allow dos to boot
(make sure your dos partition is the active partition first)

Try using the complete path. If the directory your a.out file is in, is
not in your path, it won't execute it. Try instead

./a.out

The ./ signifies the current directory.

Hi, I decided to install Debian Potato since yesterday (I had been using
RH6.0). Everything seemed to be installed fine until the setup of Xserver.
I loaded xserver-Mach64 (ATi 3D Rage Pro) and setup mouse, keyboard,
monitor, and videocard through XF86Setup program. It went fine. And I
could even see the xscreen so I saved configuration and exit from the
xscreen. Then I started startx from Console ( of course as root). But it
said that

Warning: unable to get status of mouse fd. (invalid argument)
What is wrong? Could anyone help this problem?

My mouse is PS/2 2-button mouse on VAIO PCV210

Thanks!

I tend to create

        / (2+ gig)
        /boot (25 meg)
        /alt-root (2+ gig)
swap (whatever, I currently have 1+ gig)
        /build
        /home (rest of disk)

The idea is /boot is small and can be located at the beginning of the disk in
case you have LILO/boot restrictions. I have 2 root partitions, so that I can
experiment with new releases without messing up my current system. Since I
debug GCC, which can potentially use lots and lots of memory, I jack up the
swap space really high -- you probably don't need to. The /build directory is
where I put all intermediate builds, etc. that I'm working on. The idea in
having a separate partition, is I don't have to dump this partition, since I
can always recreate it (the sources are never stored in /build, they are stored
in either /home or a separate /src directory). The /home partition is separate
from /, so that I have my home files, even I decide to reload the OS.

It's either a bug, or a feature of sendmail on RH6.x depending on your
point of view. Sendmail is doing a reverse-lookup of your hostname.
If you let it sit for a while (about 2 minutes), it will time out and
continue.
