Hi,
I use a creative TNT2 M64 agp card under Redhat 6.1, and it can't detect
that either.
What I did was to run Xconfigurator, specifying an unlisted card and using
the generic SVGA driver. This lets me run 1024x768 at 75 Hz. Not bad for
2D work, but of course there's no 3D support.
Cheers

Hi all,
I have setup up a dial in server so that I can work (eventually) from
anywahere. The dial in side is easy. I can not seem to figure out a way to
see the rest of the network. All I see is the machine I am dialing into. I
need to see the rest of the network.
How can I do this? Can I use ipchains to forward ports to other
machines(this would be somewhat limitin, however)?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Kind regards

Gene, did you try installing the RPM file instead? I am not running
mandrake 7.2 but when I was running 7.0 that was the only way we were
able to get the LNE100TX recognized and to our surprise the card turned
out to be a pretty good performer. I don't know what kernel 7.2 is
using but the driver info page says that if it is higher than 2.2 the
driver would not work. http://www.scyld.com/network/updates.html
Let me know what you find out. I am getting ready to reinstall linux
when my new motherboard arrives and more than likely it would be
Mandrake 7.2/LNE100TX combo.
Good luck,
Carlos.

The easy way to do this is to use the "switchdesk" tool. In X windows just
type switchdesk at the command line in a terminal window and you should get
a popup window allowing you to select a new desktop. This tool is also
available from the Gnome desktop menus Programs -> System -> Desktop
Switching Tool.
On my RH7.0 system the actual file that gets changed is ".Xclients-default"
in my home directory.

Remember to change symlinks in /dev for cdrom and cdrw to the new
correct scsi devices. Right now /dev/cdrom points to /dev/hdc, you
need to make it point to /dev/scd0

Subject: help - new 2.4.0 Kernel hangs Just before Init
Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 09:43:44 -0600
I am running RedHat 7.0 with the 2.4.0-26 kernel and all is well, but
I want to add and IDE CD Burner.
System configuration - Note this may have nothing to do with the
problem
PCchips MB with TXpro III chipset (Looks like a Via 82c586)
AMD K6-2/400
ATI Rage Pro PCI
Advansys SCSI controller with HP DAT Tape
Two IDE Hard Drives on IDE 0 - hda, hdb
One IDE ATAPI CDROM on IDE - hdc
One STD floppy
NE2000 clone - PCI
ESS solo1 audio - PCI
I am trying to compile the latest 2.4.0 stable (Jan 4 2001) and add
SCSI emulation for my cd burner.
Using make menuconfig
I have set the processor to K6
I have set SCSI emulation as built in, IDE
I have built into the kernel, NE2000, Ess solo, AdvanceSys SCSI
IDE CDROM is built as a module
Insalled all the latest support stuff -
util-linux-2.10s.tar.gz
util 2.4.2
etc
My old kernel and boot process still work good, after all the the
utility upgrades !
I compiled and and installed the new kernel
My new kernel boot up looks good until a message that to the best of
my recollection is - Freeing unused kernel memory 220k - then the
system hangs.
I Assuming it can't find 'init', but I don't know what to do next.
I Can still boot the old kernel and the system runs OK
What should I do next ????
Thanks in advance

As you can see - a bit of a strange setup. I've got my 8.4 gig HD

divided into linux and another windows partition. On my windows2000
box, the /dev/hda1 is C: and the /dev/hdb3 is D:. Basically, what I
am trying to do is completely take out the 17.4 gig HD (/dev/hdb) and
just use only the 8.4 gig HD in this computer (/dev/hda). However,
since GRUB is installed, I'm afraid that if I fdisk /mbr and then try
to boot to /dev/hda1, it is going to lock up, and I'll lose all my
data. Does this help at all? Can you see what I am trying to get at?

Subject: Re: LILO only says "LI" at boot
Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 10:23:23 -0600
When you see just LI it means the boot record is not in sync with the
kernel
e.g. you did not run "lilo -v" after you changed something with the
kernel
(of course after fixing lilo.conf file). These are my notes for getting
out of
this.
LILO RESCUE:
When the system is rebooted prematurely after an upgrade (forgetting to
do lilo -v) the boot hangs at the LILO prompt (L, LI, LIL, etc).
1. Reboot from RedHat 6.2 CD
2. Chooese "linux rescue" option to get to a ramdisk prompt. You are
now at a system created in the ram with very limited capabilities.
3. Have a copy of your "df" output to know what partitions are what
filesystems.
Below replace disk devices with ones corresponding to your system:
4. mkdir /boot
5. mount /dev/hda1 /boot - /dev/hda1 is the /boot filesystem on
the system disk
6. mkdir /s2
7. mount /dev/hda9 /s2 - /dev/hda9 is / filesystem on disk
8. cp /s2/etc/lilo.conf /etc
9. cd /dev
10. ln -s /s2/dev/hda hda - link the device file for entire disk
to /dev directory (to trick
lilo.conf)
11. ln -s /s2/dev/hda9 hda9 - ditto
12. /s2/sbin/lilo -v
NOTE: Steps 8, 10, and 11 are done so that device file names in
lilo.conf
remain as they are, which they
should.
