Just as a guess, do you also have power management included in your
kernel?

Hello,
I know the new RH7 came with a *defective compiler, and the kernel need to
use KGCC for build. Would like to know if someone here can point me to the
right webpage, where I can read more about this.
I want to learn more about this problem and the implication of *not fixing
it... Also like to know how someone discover this error and what are the
most common issue people will see when trying to use the default GCC...
Thank you

Subject: Help: ISA internal modem
Date: Wed, 7 Feb 2001 22:34:55 +0900
**** Post for FREE via your newsreader at post.usenet.com ****
I recently installed Redhat Linux 7 on my computer but I was unable to set
up my ISA PnP internal modem(Wearnes MediaSurf 56K DSP, ESS chip).
I tried pnpdump, isapnp, setserial and modemconf but none seemed to work.
pnpdump -c>/etc/isapnp.cof; isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf generated a check error
but I was able to let it pass if I delete the "(CHECK)"'s. Nevertheless I
could not see that the designated irq and ports are utilized and setserial
failed.
I think my modem is not a winmodem so there should be a way to correctly set
it up. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks a lot.

that was only the 2.2.16 version from redhat.
I'v compiled and run the 2.4.0, and now the 2.4.1-ac3 kernles without any
problem.
(i did get all the updates from redhat thoungh, including an updated gcc...)

It basically exits with some error in some code it _should_ compile just
fine..

Instal new disk as slave
Boot from a floppy (boot and root)
Partition and make file systems on new disk - make sure partition
numbers match old disk
Mount original disk on (e.g) /mnt
mkdir /newmnt
Mount new disk on /newmnt
cp -dpvR /mnt /newmnt
Run lilo -r /newmnt
Edit /newmnt/etc/fstab if neccessary
Halt
Switch disks (master for slave)
Reboot
If it works OK.
If something has gone wrong (doesn't it always), you can always go back
to the original config by reswitching master for slave.

I'm at work, but I'm pretty sure I'me using a late kernel 2.2.1b or later.
There is a ton of USB stuff in the /usb/ directory including 'tty' things. But
I have no clue how to tell LM 7.2 to look for the USB port instead of a serial
port. It comes up with Serial, ISDN etc but no USB.
I have only one serial port, so if I could replace TTYs1 and TTYs2 with the
two USB ports in a setup file then it might work?

The "require.scm" file is included in the "umb-scheme" package. At least

Gene Heskett sends Greetings to Peter T.;
PTB> Anyway, the canonical incantation for tar is
PTB> tar cpvlfC - /usr . | tar xpvlfC - /mnt/hde2/usr
etc, etc for all the different partitions I currently have.
If one would do this for the whole fstab listing, making an image on a
new controller and drive, would it then be possible to to edit the
/mnt/hde2/etc/fstab, change the filesystem specs to reiserfs, then
reboot after makeing a kernel on *that* disk that would boot off-board
controllers first? I think there's a bios option that might have to be
set too...
That controller is a maxtor (aka promise) ata-100. If that could work,
it would make a quick way to migrate an old ata-33/ext2 lashup to
ata-100 and reiserfs.
Hmm, I see one potential gotcha, my lilo hasn't been replaced yet, and
the partition is a 16 gigger. Anything else one should take into
consideration?
Cheers, Gene

Redhat 6.2 installed OK with one of my Number 9 S3 cards, though it did
a crap job of picking the video modes it could use.
It filed utterly with a slightly newer Number 9 S3 card. Over all I

Subject: hwclock set wrong... or is it?
Date: Wed, 07 Feb 2001 17:05:53 GMT
Following the various bits of advice found in FAQs and HOWTO guides,
I ran ntpdate to set my system clock to the correct time from a nearby
time server, and then ran hwclock --systohc --utc to get the RTC
synchronized with the system clock. My /etc/sysconfig/clock reads:
ZONE="US/Mountain"
UTC=true
ARC=false
/etc/localtime is linked to the zoneinfo for US Mountain time. So
in theory, hwclock --show --utc should show the time in Greenwich
and hwclock --show --localtime should show the time in Mountain
time, right?
Instead, I get exactly the opposite. The date command shows
the correct local time (from the system clock), but hwclock --show
--utc ALSO shows the local time, instead of the UTC time. And
hwclock --show --localtime shows UTC.
Am I doing something wrong, or am I just misunderstanding the
UTC/local time relationship as stored in the RTC?

Well, to be precise, I have installed RH on this system for more than a
year (upgraded to RH7 a few months ago). The monitor used to be able to
power off properly. It didn't power off starting a few weeks ago. I've
tried many methods and still can't get it to work again.
I don't want to reinstall RH7.

There is an error in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/no. As you can see
from the section below a "]" is missing (in the first of the two lines that contains
the word "threequarters"):
key <TLDE> { [ bar, section ],
[ brokenbar, paragraph ]};
key <LSGT> { [ less, greater ],
- [ onehalf, threequarters };
+ [ onehalf, threequarters ]};
key <SPCE> { [ space, space ],
[ nobreakspace, nobreakspace ]};
key <AE01> { [ 1, exclam ],
Go to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/, find this section and fill in the
missing "]" (You have to make the file writable first). Then do
"xkbcomp -lfhlpR -o ../symbols.dir '*'"
Restart X and everything should be fine.
