I *know* about xmodmap.

"man xmodmap" tells me (a) how to swap, not change cap lock into cntl
and (b) how to swap only under xwindows whereas I wanted to change the
global map.

I don't know how you are trying to log on but if you can easily
find where the modem initialization string in your app is kept
(in my PPP configuration, it's in 'ppp-on-dialer'), enter, I
believe it's 'X0' for most modems.

Compiling the whole system from source. I do build everything from source,
but did base the install on RH6.2 and its the installer that missed this
link. I agree that source building is the way to go, on one of my systems, X
has been hammerd for 183 days now with not a single glitch and thats with
X3.3.6 built from source.

Did some tests last night, seems libmpeg fails, as does gpm. which fits with
assembler error numbers as both these use assembler.

I had many emails asking me about this error since posting, so will add the
fix to my upcomming FAQ (yes yet another one).

Forgot to mention "linux single" at the LILO prompt also.

Interesting not seen Alt Ctrl f1 fail, what distribution are you using? Seen
alt ctrl bs fail after being disabled in the XF86Config file, maybee its also
possible to disable Atl Ctrl F1.

I mainly use RH, moving to Debian when the G4 Powerbook arrives. Have enough
problems in day to day work, moving from Solaris, BSD, AIX, Linux and
Windoze.

Soemone told me a while back that Mandrake was RH based, no ideas if thats
true?

Yes it is.

First you need to learn about IP forwarding and masquerading (as someone
else's post has suggested). This gets the job done partially (in that once
the connection is made, it can be shared).

To get the connection to occur automatically at the request of the client
or the Linux box making the PPP connection, use the "diald" server.

It's a limitation of LILO. The latest version of lilo does not have this
limitation.

I am a very begginner user to Linux.  I just installed Madrake Linux 7.2
on my machine:

Celeron 366
32MB Ram

The installation process went realitively smoothly except when I went to
boot into it the first time. I got to a screen with a picture of a
penquin on it saying

host uoguelph.ca loginname:

I am assuming this is asking for my login name for my network
connection.  The problem being is almost as soon as this come up before
I have hit any keys my screen goes blank and I can't get it back.  Does
anyone know a easy way to fix this?

gcc -Wall -ansi -o <ouputfile name> sourcefilename.c

-Wall --will give you warnings and errors
-ansi  -- makes sure it is ansi c code
-o says make it output
<outputfile> -- is the you wat the executable file to be
sourcefile.c -- is the .c file name of your source code

I know it works in RedHat 6.2 and not sure about 7

I need to have upto 64 ppp connections on the same machine.

I require 47.131.80.123 go through ppp0 and x.x.80.110 go though ppp1. 
Righ now, if I don't change any route, they all choose to go through
eth0.


After the above dial in, I got the following routing table:

This Linux PC is dedicated to my test, I can change the routing table
any way I like. I didn't add any route cmd in ip-up yet. The following

Most of these installer helpers don't edit /etc/lilo.conf to add the new
kernel, which is a requirement, as is running /sbin/lilo -v in order to
install it in the boot menu.

'man lilo' for starters.

It'll work under 7, though sometimes you can get a segfault with 7, in
which case you might try to use its (kernel compiler) kgcc? 7 sucks,
ditch it.

Please refrain from posting the entire subject article in the subject
line. A lot of people won't be able to read it all.

As for your query. You might like to try Kylix (Borlands Delphi fro
Linux, I've never tried it) It won't come with RH. Additionally, there is
KDevelop, which, I believe does come with RH7.

A lot of the suites are just editing studios, that you link in with gcc,
g++. Though I'm not a C++ programmer.

Personally though, I think vim (in a suitable colourised terminal),
ctags, and make make a darn good package.

For the benifit of other readers, if the odd dialtone lasts just for a
short time (like answering services provided by telcos), then you just
pad the dial string with commas at the start. This makes it pause for a
while (1 sec?)

I've recently purchased an IBM T85D flat panel monitor and IBM GeForce 2 mx
dvi/vga card....

I'm trying to get my Xserver up and running.  The xserver does actually load
and come up, but it's overshadowed by many pink lines running across the
screen... If anyone has a similar configuration that's working or has any
ideas on what to do, I'd greatly appreciate it...

I have recently installed the newest drivers from Nvidia... but still can't
seem to get it to work..

Please help! :-)

If that's the problem, then you could also try changing a setting in bios to
allow PCI1 to work instead of AGP (I'm pretty sure the bios of my p3v4x has
this option).

Try using the Ensoniq 1370 drivers, they work for me and my SB PCI 128.  Though
you may need the 1371 drivers.  Do an lspci as superuser and you should see
whether you need the 1370 or 1371.
