You can try balsa. It's a gtk email client. Read more about it here:

Date: Fri, 09 Mar 2001 15:44:28 +0800
I upgrade my KDE from 2.0.1 to 2.1. But the art sound server cannot use
my sound card anymore. In 2.0.1, everything is fine but in 2.1,
whenever KDE startup artsd said that it cannot find any 'OSS' type audio
I/O. Even I install the commercial OSS, it said that it cannot find any
audio I/O. Actually other Linux sound application can produce sound
normally. I am using ES1371 with the 2.2.x kernel module as driver,
which should be OSS/Free driver.
Can anyone tell me how to make artsd to find my audion I/O?
Thank you very much!

Subject: mounting a FreeBSD Partition?
Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 09:56:20 +0100
Hi,
I have a FreeBSD partition on the disk which I'd like to see under Linux.
It is reported by mount as being /dev/hda2 mounted on /mnt/hda2 type ufs ro.
However when I try to see anything under /mnt/hda2 - there's nothing there.
The partition is ok - I can boot FreeBSD no problem.
Thanks for any hints,
Martin.

I've got exactly the same configuration - so this is, how I handled it:
Install Win2k on the first hd.
Install Linux on the second hd.
Install Lilo at /dev/hdb1 # not hda1 !!!
(It works also with /dev/hdb)
Configure the bootmanager chos
Install chos at hda
Boot from hda1 -> Win2k
Boot from hdb1 -> Lilo = Linux
Install chos
Now Chos boots at first, you can either choos Win2K or Lilo.
It's not the only possibility, but it works for me :-) If you want to see my
config-file for chos send me a mail at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 09:29:24 -0000
I have somehow managed to get rid of my original font setup for printing
(and one or two seem to have gone missing from the GIMPs point of view too).
I installed X 4.02 to get hardware acceleration working properly with my
video card. Everything seemed to go fine but when I tried to print all I get
is a piece of paper with an error message printed on it. It says something
to the effect of "Helvetica could not be found". There is a lot of fluff I
don't understand in with that, but the gist is that it couldn't find the
right font. Same happens with the GIMP if I try to use Helvetica, Lucida or
a couple of other fonts. Looking closely at them, the ones that are
problematic appear to be Type 1 fonts, but the Type 1 font directory is in
the path from XF86Config-4. I assume that it is the printer font settings
which are screwed. How do I fix them?
Thanks

I'm currently running RedHat 6.2 (upgraded kernel) on two HP Vectra

Of course, you have to look for the hardware you have handy...
specifically the CPU(s) and HD controller...

What is easier than plain choosing on boot?
Setup lilo.conf correctly, and all the customer needs to do is choose the OS to
boot.

LILO can do this for you, activate is just a tool to make a partition active, that
other programs may refuse to activate (extended partitions eg.)

I expected this, but it's for windows only, linux really doesn't care
about the partition ID it is installed on.

I have 4.3 GB Hard disk with C:, D: and E: drive (about 1.5 GB each). On C:
drive I have installed windows 98. Now tell me how can I install UNIX in my
system without deleting any of the old contents, so that windows 98 will not
be affected and I can run UNIX or Windows at my will.
I want to install UNIX (or Linux) in such a way that it takes least amount
of disk space, i.e. I want to install only important part of UNIX for
practice purpose. Please tell me what is the indispensable files of UNIX
(like command.com, msdos.sys & io.sys of MSDOS...)
Please advice me how can I make it and where from the Internet I can
"download" UNIX ?

hi everybody,
i am utterly at loss with my laptop :
- prehistory : installed some new softare on my windows partition.
(yeah, yeah .. i don't want to hear about it,
but the linux version of the program
gave me a segmentation fault)
maybe the disk got a little too full there. not sure.
abandonned this, logged out.
- problem : can't get into my linux partition now anymore :
partition check hda1 hda2 <>
VFS : Cannot open root device 03:05
Kernel Panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 03:05
what could be the problem ?
- all the device drivers should be there since i have been working
with this laptop
under linux for some three months now.
- the mbr should be ok, since the boot process starts but gets hung
later.
- partition table ? i figured out how to get into rescue mode.
here is the output of gpart -vvd /dev/hda1

Duh.
Messed with / (or /boot)?
The bootfiles have physically moved, that's all.
Just boot with a bootfloppy and rerun /sbin/lilo would have solved this.

All partitioning tools are potentially dangerous, as errors may damage your
data.
PQ PartitionMagic is fairly good and safe though.

Morgen,
OK. Linux Mand 6. Ipchains... I put in my first line...
ipchains -A input -i eth0 -p tsp -s 10.0.0.1 ftp -j ACCEPT
Wonderful! She loves it and swallows. I do ipchains -L and there it is!
Excellent I'm cooking now! I ftp to my baby and she takes me...
I then go...
ipchains -P input DENY
I hit enter and this is also is swallowed without complain...
I then do my ipchains -L and she stops dead... well she at least
displays a single line then stops without displaying any of my policy.
I control-C and type ipchains-save.... I get a lovely message that
reassures me everything was saved as it was supposed to.. but she
lies...
Questions - Anybody know what the feck is going on here? Can I manually
enter these lines into a file somewhere? Can I debug? Can I examine this
part of my kernel and make sure ipchains is correclty inserted? How? Am
I entering my policy correctly? Can I use ipfw instead? Is it more
robust? Will she drop them after only the second date? (sorry, wrong
newsgroup)
Many thanks in advance,
Lots of love,

Defragmentate the filesystem,
Actually you need more than just defragmentating:
all files must be moved to the beginning of the filesystem.
But as I said before, I know little of this, ask in a windows
related newsgroup.
Al I can tell you is what you tried:
shut down virtual memory, and run your defrag tool.
Could be that some system files reside somewhere near the
filesystem end. They can have flags, that prevent them from
being moved IIRC. Which files? I don't know

there was another compilation error which was the same as another one I

The problem is that there is still a problem compiling although it is not
