You can download it from Red Hat (ftp.redhat.com) and probably the mirrors.
Look around and you should be able to find the .iso image.

Puh..hard to tell...I would remove the -v (verbose) which would lower
the output, redirect to /dev/null , play around with other multiple
redirections,
like cmd 2>file,...
Do you have this in your crontab set?

Execute the command line in your terminal: /etc/resolv.conf and then type
the DNS number that you are trying to connect via...I.e. 109.176.194.129...I
think this helps...

Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2001 20:12:34 +0100
I have installed the Mandrake 7.2 on my PC with Windows 98 .
But I can't use my printer ( it is recorgnized on /dev/lp0 by every system
soft ).
The Tunelp command tell me this : " /dev/lp0 using IRQ -1".
The system soft under Windows 98 inform that the printer Port is LPT1 and
that it use IRQ 7 and I/O 0x378.
The I/O parameter is recorgnised under Linux.
My question is :
" Wy is /dev/lp0 using IRQ -1 ( What does it means ? ) ?
and how to change this parameter that seems to be wrong ? "
Thanks a lot .

I've seen this in RH7.0 upgraded to the 2.4.2-XFS kernel (from SGI). I
*think* it means that mkinitrd is trying to load the loop modules, but
doesn't know how (b/c of a missing entry in /etc/modules.conf). The quick
fix is to 'modprobe loop' before running mkinitrd. The correct fix is
to put the appropriate entry in /etc/modules.conf, but I've been too lazy
to look it up yet.

Ok... I'm gonna get my butt kicked for this but here goes..
I recommend LOADLIN, I know that a lot of people will recommend LILO (
hi eric :-))...
But I use loadlin for booting linux mainly because a lot (all) of M$ OS
installation will stomp on the MBR of the HD leaving you with a hard
time booting either linux or M$..
If you choose to use loadlin the way I do it is to use a multi config
menu.
<CONFIG.SYS>
[menu]
menuitem=dos,dos
menuitem=linux,linux
[dos]
device=c:\dos\himem.sys
device=c:\dos\emm.sys
etc...
[linux]
device=c:\doos\himem.sys
etc
<AUTOEXEC.BAT>
echo off
cls
GOTO %CONFIG%
:dos
SET PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\WIN etc
GOTO END
:linux
SET PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\LOADLIN
etc
linux.bat
GOTO END
:END
You will also have to copy an 'kernel image' to the C:\LOADLIN
directory, this is usually called vmlinuz or zimage and can be found on
the distro CD or setup bootdisk...
You will also have to create a file called LINUX.BAT ( best put in the
LOADLIN directory )
<LINUX.BAT>
LOADLIN C:\LOADLIN\VMLINUZ (or zimage) ROOT=/DEV/HD$X ( Where HD$X =
partition where linux is installed e.g.
HDA1 First partition of IDE disk 0 (first HD)
HDA2 2nd partition of IDE disk 0
HDA5 First patition of the Extended partition of IDE disk0
HDB1 First Partition of IDE disk 1 (2nd HD)
SDA1 First Partition of SCSI disk 1
etc
Hope this helps....

I am new to linux.. have some Unix experience.
I have lots of "C" programming experience -- under Windows!
I need to upgrade RH7 to the 2.4.0 (or 2.4.1) kernel.
Red Hat does not yet have an RPM for this.
I need to upgrade kernel and PCMCIA to work
on wireless networking in 2.4.
Anyone done this upgrade?
Am I in trouble here?
Does RH keep the kernel in /usr/include instead of /usr/src?
Best way to upgrade please!!!!!!

HI,
I have just installed Redhat 7.0 on my new laptop.
The install went OK (although it would not run in GUI mode)
I have set up XF86Config so that it correctly recognises my Sis630
chipset video card, and am running in framebuffer mode.
Everything seems to work fine in command mode.
When I run startx, it starts up the X server, with Gnome. However, the
screen is visible in console 1 (CTRL-ALT-F1), while the current
console is set to 7, which shows a blank pale gray screen.
What then happens is that the keyboard and mouse do not respond at all
when I am in console 1, apart from the CTRL-ALT-n to switch to another
console (and CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot).
But if I switch to console 7, anything I type or do with the mouse
there actually occurs on console 1. As you can imagine, this makes
things rather tricky. After this point, I have *no* console on which I
can type and see what is happening at the same time.
Can anybody give me any suggestions as to how I can get the display
and the keyboard/mouse on the same console?

If you have the xf86config program installed it will give you the option of
setting the virtual screen and this will cure the problem... xf86config is a
little less friendly than most XF86 setup programs but more powerful..... If
you are sure you know your hardware.

Subject: fa311 nic (again)
Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 21:59:32 GMT
Hi
Like a few people I find I have trouble getting this card to work...
I'm using Mandrake 7.0 at the moment with Kernel 2.2.14-15mdk
I know this card says it is for RH, but I tried with RH 6.1 but had no
luck so I tried out Mandrake.
I used the instructions from an earlier post on this topic,
downloading the files from the Netgear site and using the command
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -DMODULE -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O -m486 -c
-I/usr/src/linux/include fa311.c "
I'm not totally conversent with compiling and so just copied this.
I then copied the fa311.c file into the /lib/modules/2.2.14-15mdk/net
directory
When I used insmod fa311 I got the following error message
....... was compiled for kernel version 2.2.14-5smp while this version
is version 2.2.14-15mdk
OK so I know this is telling me that I'm on the wrong kernel version
for this file. Can somebody enlighten me as to a) what distro has the
2.2.14-5smp kernel or b) can I compile it for the mandrake kernel I'm
using
actually if anybody out there knows an easier solution or can
recommend a cheap nic which does work that would be good too :-)

For about $12, I would buy a distribution such as RH7 that's got lilo 21.4.4
or higher on it. Plus, you would also have a greater likelihood of having
video drivers included that would support your video card.
I had to go through all kinds of hoops to get RH6.2 installed on my machine.
Firstly, I need commercial video drivers from Xi Graphics (xig.com) to make
my ATI Rage 128 Pro card run XWindows (not too expensive at all at $39, but
not free). Then, to boot without a boot floppy, I had to install lilo 21.5
from a tarball I downloaded. That had to be compiled and the lilo.conf file
had to be edited so that the "linear" option was deleted and replaced with
"lba32."
I have a 40GB harddrive with three 13 GB partitions C(hda1), D(hda5), a
deleted E partition (hda6), oh, and a 133MB linux swap partition (hda7).
My lilo.conf looks like the following:
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
lba32
default=dos
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14-5.0
label=linux
read-only
root=/dev/hda6
append="mem=256M"
other=/dev/hda1
label=dos
And then I had to rerun lilo.
If something goes wrong, you can always boot into DOS and do FDISK /MBR to
restore booting to windows.
I think if you wait another year or two, installing linux will be as
painless as installing Windows. In fact, with the
exception of the TCP/IP-PPP problems I'm now having (I think the USB support
messed up my modem's use of ttyS1[=com1]),
installing RH7 was much less pain than installing Windows 98. My
motherboard uses a non-Intel chipset (VIA MVP 3) so,
for Windows, I had to plug my pci sound card and modem in after installing
windows and the appropriate drivers from VIA.
No such ornate procedure for Red Hat 7 was required. Now all I need is a
DVD/MPEG/AVI player, and a much better
automated internet modem configuration program. RP3 is pretty useless.
It's never detected my pci modem. (When I had
RH6.2 installed, I was able to stumble upon the correct com port (then it
was ttyS1) and set up a PPP connection using the
MSN HowTo. I don't know why it doesn't work now...) Oh, of course, make
sure you don't have a winmodem.
