That's not quite correct. The language-of-choice in all Big8 groups is
plain english, though every once in a while someone will mistakenly
post in a different language.

The .iso file is a CD image file. You should be able to burn a bootable
Cd from it. Your best bet is then to install on an empty hard disk
drive. If that isn't possible, use Partition Magic or other software to
create some free space on your drive and install to it.

Most distributions these days take you directly to X when you start.

hmmm.....i just set up the anti-alias thing like in the linux-planet
tutorial (the one linked at kde.org)

compiled and installed qt 2.3, compiled and installed XFree 4.0.2, set the
variables, BUT - the enable anti-alias box doesn't show up in my kde
control panel.

any suggestions?

btw: do i have to do anything to the old qt-files from my kde2.1mkd-install?
do i have to remove them all (especially the static libs)?

would be thankful for any help.

Actually, what you are getting is LILO trying to boot. Your kernel is
not currently bootable. You can try again with RH6.1 but given your
history, I'd suggest trying a more recent distribution.

Nothing serious.
Use the bootdisk you made during the installation, and boot from that.
Then inspect lilo.conf, to see why this occurs

Not. most posts are in english. therefor making this effectively
an english NG. (Not solely intended for people from england though ;-))
I meant the language, not the geographical region called england
I doubt that more than 10 percent here can read german.

It shure would help if you have not munged the information. Now we cannot actually
ask the server and examinate it.

The closing ')' however should be on the same line as the '604800;' in your SOA record.

You are also lacking MX record for 'munged.comain'.

Yeah.

No .. you compiled the code against the "wrong" kernel sources. Or at
least not the sources of the kernel you plan to run it against.

> for this file. Can somebody enlighten me as to a) what distro has the
> 2.2.14-5smp kernel or b) can I compile it for the mandrake kernel I'm

Eh? There aren't no such thing. It's just a version label. The "smp" is
the problem .. you can't use an smp module in a non-smp kernel. (I
think the other way might work, but would be rampantly unsafe). Go back
and use the includes from the "right" kernel source. I.e. replace your
-I/usr/src/linux/include with wherever you put the includes for your
running kernel.

Anyway, with luck you may get away with twiddling the -5smp in
whichever file it's in. version.h? Go look. I don't know how your disk
is laid out so I can't tell you!

Dear subscribers.

My company has a Dell PowerEdge 1550 equipped with a RAID disk set. I would
like to have SuSE installed on this server, but the problem is that the SuSE
setup program doesn't find the harddisk, i.e. doesn't recognize the RAID
controller.

I would like to know if it's possible to install SuSE 7.1 on this server. I
have SuSE 7.0 too, if that would help.

Dell currently supports RedHat on their servers, but I reckon that it means
that it should be possible to use SuSE too.

Kind regards, Ola Theander

Subject: second CPU not recognized
Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2001 23:26:48 -0800

I'm loading Debian 2.2.18pre21 on two dual 800MHz PIII systems
with ASUS CUR-DLS motherboards. Everything goes smoothly, but
in the end only one CPU is recognized. At first I thought that
the default kernel doesn't support SMP (there isn't an entry for
SMP in /boot/config-2.2.18pre21), but evidently it does (I've just
done exactly the same Debian installation on a dual 667MHz PIIIEB
system with a SuperMicro PIIIDME 840 motherboard, and both CPU's
are recognized -- also if I run "make xconfig" and load the
original config file, SMP shows up as being enabled in the menu).
The config file indicates MTRR and RTC enabled and APM disabled,
as recommended in the SMP HowTo.

At boot-up, the ASUS BIOS reports the presence of both CPU's
(but the second one appears with a star next to it -- I've no
idea what that means). I've appended the output of "cat /proc/cpuinfo"
and an abbreviated "dmesg" below. I do not get the raft of
IO APIC messages at boot time for the 800MHz machines that I see
for the working 667MHz machine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Andy

Hi NG,

I'm planning to get some strange setup but I'm a beginner so let me ask
you something:

1) How do I set my PCMCIA modem to get connected to internet?
Quietly seems that the modem has been found on tty3, but I've no idea
how I'll configure the connection. I was expecting to find Kppp, but it
isn't there with the MDK 7.0. I don't understand how to make it works with
linuxconfig.

2) I'd like to boot linux by MSdos autoexec on my c: , but I don't know
exactly if WinME allow is. Futhermore how do I copy the kernel image on
the c: drive?

3) I'd like to put the linux partition on a portable HD that's hooked on
my laptop via PCcard, but the PCMCIA deamon is loaded after vmlinuz, then
it wouldn't find where to continue.
In this way I may share the same HD on my laptop as much as I can plug it
also on my desktop. So I won't waste disk space and I will have my thing
running only in one hard disk. This option could avoid to work for the
above point 2 and I'll set only 2 floppies. One for each PC, to make them
run with their own kernel.

4) probably I should compile all module into the kernel so the PCMCIA
deamon will find the portable HD and go on to boot.

That's all. Any comment will be very much apreciated.
