What does

  fdisk -l /dev/hda

say?

That should tell you all the available partitions on the disk.

Also, did you try mounting /dev/hda5 ?

hd?1 to hd?4 are reserved for the primary partitons. If you use
extended partitions, one of these primary partitions becomes the
"container" for them, and the actual extended partitions always
start at hd?5 (even if some of the primary partitions are not used).

I think you will find that your case looks like this:

hda1 primary vfat (Windows C:)
hda2 extended
hda5 Logical vfat (Windows D: music)

Hi All:

Has anyone had any experience with any of the SmartMedia
readers/writers out there ? I know there are some that plug into a USB
port and others that mimic a floppy disk. Of course all the software
that comes bundled with these devices is for that "other" OS. Please
e-mail with any thoughts or suggestion on this matter

Try 'mount' and see if it's listed there. If's it not mounted, you'll
need to look in /etc/fstab for the mount point and mount it manually.
KDE by default should automount a CD when inserted. If not, try this in
a terminal window after inserting the CD (do this as root):

# mount -t iso9660 /dev/scd1 /mnt/cdrom

Your device (/dev/scd1) and mount point may be different - Look in
/etc/fstab to make sure. That's how it works on my RH7 system. Once
mounted, I see this:

[root] / # mount
/dev/hda2 on / type ext2 (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
usbdevfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw)
/dev/hda5 on /usr type ext2 (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
/dev/hda1 on /win98 type vfat (rw)
/dev/hda7 on /ddrive type vfat (rw)
/dev/scd1 on /mnt/cdrom type iso9660 (ro)
[root] / #

Before you remove the CD, be sure to unmount it first:

# umount /mnt/cdrom

or whatever your CDROM mount point is. You can confirm it's unmounted
once again with 'mount'. It shouldn't be listed anymore.

> how to find out if it's installed.

If a GUI is starting up, maybe it *is* KDE. Or is it just a login screen
and you can't get any further?

Once you login, is there a taskbar along the bottom of the screen? If
so, is there a button at the left end? If so (again), it's maybe one of
three environments running: KDE (the icon will be a "K" and a
gearwheel), gnome (the icon will be a "footprint" G) or FVWM95 (the
button will read "Linux").

If you don't see anything on screen at all, just a graphical background
with an "X" cursor, try clicking the right (secondary) mouse button and
see if a menu appears. You might be running twm or some other old window
manager (horrors :).

You can use 'switchdesk' to change this. Read the man page:

$ man switchdesk

access

times.

Take a look at multilinking or channel bonding (both are ways of
simulating a single network connection with multiple net connections in or
near main kernel code so they are transparent to the app, Like the net
browser.

Hope that helps, Josh

$ more README
$ ./configure --help
$ more configure.log

First upgrade your kernel to 2.4.x. It supports standard USB storage
devices.

HI, all,

I have a PC with two SCSI HDs. The first HD has been installed of NT and
Solaris. I installed Red Hat 6.2 in the second HD. The LILO is setup on
the first sector of the /boot partition. But I cannot boot from the
second HD . The screen only showed me "L". I think it means system
cannot find the boot sector correctly. Some people suggested me that to
add the linux boot file into the solaris boot loader ( The solaris
loader is instead of the NT loader already). But I don't know how to.

Anyone know how to do it?

Thanks!

Looks like hardware problems to me. Try putting the card in another PCI
slot, and see if it will work from there. You may have a bad PCI slot. Are
you having problems with any other PCI cards in the system? Also try a
different NIC to see if your ethernet card might be bad.

Hi guys,

I have an interesting problem that I hope you guys can help me with. I have
a Mandrake 7.2 box running with Proftpd as the FTP Daemon. I also have a
Netware 5.1 box running pure IPX. I have the Data Volume of the netware box
mounted on my Linux box with NCPMOUNT.

When I log into the FTP site I can see the NCPMount and view the files.
When I try to download from it I get "Transfer Aborted Data Connection
Closed"

The funny part of this is I can upload to the Volume.....I just can't
Download from it.

Any suggestions?
