So?
It does exceed that limit, doesn't it?
(0x0302 = hda2)
It means that it may be unable to boot.
(depending on both your LILO version and your BIOS)
What version of lilo do you have?
(PS. why do you want to boot from a bootfloppy in the first case)

Hi
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a how-to or article on how to
setup a Linux machine to look to a central server for it's login details -
in other words I want to have a set of user details that only needs to be
updated on one machine.
I'm sure I've read about this elsewhere but can't find anywhere which has
anything of any use.
Any help would be appreciated......

I have tried both, both give the same error:
$ netscape
netscape: locale `en_US' not supported by Xlib; trying `C'.
netscape: locale `C' not supported either.
Perhaps the $XNLSPATH environment variable is not set correctly?
Bus error
$ /usr/bin/X11/netscape
netscape: locale `en_US' not supported by Xlib; trying `C'.
netscape: locale `C' not supported either.
Perhaps the $XNLSPATH environment variable is not set correctly?
Bus error

No, i rarely use these kinds of applications. Prefer the commandline. :)

Too bad:
$ man 5 environ
No manual entry for environ in section 5

I will try to find this manpage somewhere online...

$ echo $LC_ALL

I guess this looks normal? When i change $LANG i get the same error
(except for the fact that it is no longer looking for en_US):
$ netscape
netscape: locale `C' not supported.
Perhaps the $XNLSPATH environment variable is not set correctly?
Bus error

How do i find out about this? I have almost no knowledge about these
kind of things. This is one of the areas of my SuSE installation where i
did not do things myself. This should be like out of the box. [SuSE 7.0]

I ran SuSE 6.x before, upgraded to 7.0 and this must be the point where
netscape did no longer start. I don't use netscape that often, so i
cannot recall the exact moment.

Well, cron doesn't run on my box because it causes disk access. The only
time when the harddisk spins up is when my ISP decides to kick me off his

My machine doesnt get very warm especially when the harddisk is off!

Hello folks!
I need to know what the ports must be opened
for NFS server on RedHat 6.2.
We have a big intranet and close unnecessary ports.
If we open just 111 (portmapper) and 2049 (nfsd) mount on the client
side
complains: rpc - unable to receive.
When we open everything - works fine.
The problem is every time you restart nfs
rpc.mountd get another port for listening.
I was wondering if somebody could advise what the ports
(or port range for rpc.mountd) must be opened.
Sincerely,
Lev

That's a good thing.
NTFS support is not optimal yet. You can read from NTFS,
but writing is very experimental. Unless you plan to work on
ntfs support, use it in read-only mode. The documentation is very
clear on this subject.

Try the LDP (Linux Documentation Project)! I think you should get it
elsewhere in the net at several LINUX sites or maybe the open books
at o'reilly. Well, at least, if you are using a sufficient distribution
there should be some book's on the installation CD's (e.g. SuSe).
At all these places look for information on NIS & NFS! (it's a bit
to much to write it down here)

I don't know for certain if this will help (I don't have an Epson),
but there is a reference to a "string" that must be sent to an Epson
printer via USB in order to get the printer to talk USB.

Of course, that's one way to see it. But since I'm always rather
optimistic, I thought that if it didn't already crash during kernel
bootup, it shouldn't crash when creating the partitions, either. ;-) I'd
probably expect it to behave really strange once the software packages are
actually being installed or once the system is really running.
Anyway, I'd still but up some kind of emergency system (at least SuSE
Linux allows you to launch such a thing in the main install menu) and try
using fdisk and mke2fs by hand. If it doesn't work, then he really needs
to get something else (like the Linux versions you suggested) for his 486
machines.

Nils

I had no problems using ntfs on NT4, but I have upgrated to win2k.
I have cvs files on my ntfs pertition and I would like to use the same files
from Linux.
That is the main reason why I need ntfs in read-write.
I'm runing 2.4.2 with full support of ntfs.
So it is possible to get write mode ... I hope.

You already used it on NTFS4?
Even that was playing with fire.
win2k's NTFS (NTFS5) is different from NTFS4
Don't try. Put the stuff on a FAT partition.
PS. you can use the files, you just shouldn't attempt to write to them

I did see an upgrade iso (named, appropriately enough, upgrade.iso), but it
wasn't very large (a few hundred kB).
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat-7.0/upgrade/iso/upgrade.iso
You can also find more information in

Hope this is what you're looking for.
