We've bought the RedHat Linux Enterprise Edition Optimized for Oracle8i installed in a
Intel PC. According to the specification, it should support 64 bit I/O. However,
after I install both Linux and Oracle 8.1.7 and I try to create a data file
larger than 2GB, the following error occurs:
==================================================================================
SQL> create tablespace ts datafile '/data/u1/data1.dbf' size 10000M autoextend off

Has anyone used the RedHat Linux EE for Oracle8i? Any idea how to create a larger size
data file in Oracle?

It shouldn't try to access this though, I agree.

That's a bummer 'cause it was my first suspicion
Do you have some weird jumpering on the drives on the controller.
Each IDE controller supports one master, and one slave.
Misconfiguring this, or having a slave without a master, could well
be the cause of these problems. So double check that, and while
the box is open, make sure the cabling is okay too.

Hello! my name is alfred
i have some problem about the rp-pppoe on-demand function i had search a lot
of place but i could't found any info about this, could you help me pleases!
I'm using rp-pppoe 2.6, is working well but when i used the on-demand
function, it stop work
here is the situation
I guess that if i enable the on-demand function then it will go online
automatic, when i open the browser, but nothing happen, i can't access to
internet, so you go to the linux computer and type "adls-start", it seem
normal and the linux showed the connection
is successful, but i just can not across the internet, then i type ifconfig
to see the connection success or not, but i can't see the ppp0 interface.
I let the linux do the internet gateway and i used other pc to access the
internet, when i want to go online, i have to telnet the linux and start the
connection, some time i will forget to stop it, so that the line keep on in
all day (the internet charge is expensive in my country)
i really hope that the pppoe can be come up in automatic when i access to
internet and stop in a given time.
im using redhat 6.0
kernel verson is : 2.2.5-15
ppp verson is : 2.3.7-2
and i used winME to connect it
Thank a lot!

I would like to be able to "install" Linux (Slackware) by just copying
the required system files to C:\LINUX on my FAT-32 HDD (currently
running Windows ME) and boot Linux from a LILO boot diskette.
i.e. I do not want to dual boot, or do a proper install to HDD which
results in a linux HDD boot sector.
Can this be done and if so how?

actually, what it was was the line "linear" in lilo.conf. i simply had to
change it to "lba32", and everything worked okay.

i just installed redhat 7 also, and i was wondering if i could get rid of
the graphical lilo interface by removing the "message" entries in my
lilo.conf. i would rather use the text mode.
along these same lines, i would like to start everything in text mode. i
would like to login in text mode, and i was wondering if it was possible to
start linux without kde/gnome and just use the shell prompt. then, if i
wanted to run kde/gnome i could enter the command for it. i'm a big fan of
the command prompt.

yeah, that would be nice.
And then just double-click on vmlinuz.exe :-)

There are some distributions that allow you to do an install on a FAT FS.
(I'm not sure if slack does) Then in windows, you'd see one big file, that
if windows would be capable of this, mount on a loopback device and find all
your
linux files. It's probably as close as you can get.
I will not advise this to you, just free up a partition and dedicate it to
linux.
If you don't want linux afterwards, you can always claim it back.

You don't inspect the files. The colors are determined by a config
file. Not sure how Red Hat does it but with Slackware there's an
/etc/DIR_COLORS file or the user can have ~/.dircolors.
In the file is where colors are specified.
Some examples from /etc/DIR_COLORS:
# Below are the color init strings for the basic file types. A color init
# string consists of one or more of the following numeric codes:
# Attribute codes:
# 00=none 01=bold 04=underscore 05=blink 07=reverse 08=concealed

I believe there's some info on the color stuff in places like

You might even have a man page for dircolors or dir_colors.

If you've got the NTP installed, just set up a cron job to execute
this script
ntpdate ntp2.usno.navy.mil tick.usno.navy.mil tcok.usno.navy.mil
and if you care to see the output, just add

then
sh ntpscript
