Well, you need to "cat /proc/ioports" to see where the io range really
is. However, that may well be the result of the drivers ioport
registration and nothing to do with the hardware really. For example:
 0000-001f : dma1
0020-003f : pic1
0040-005f : timer
0060-006f : keyboard
0080-008f : dma page reg
00a0-00bf : pic2
00c0-00df : dma2
00f0-00ff : fpu
01f0-01f7 : ide0
02f8-02ff : Lucent Microelectronics 56k WinModem
0300-031f : pcnet_cs
03c0-03df : vga+
03e0-03e1 : i82365
03f6-03f6 : ide0
0cf8-0cff : PCI conf1
1000-100f : Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 IDE
  1000-1007 : ide0
  1008-100f : ide1
1c00-1cff : Lucent Microelectronics 56k WinModem
ec00-ecff : C-Cube Microsystems Cinemaster C 3.0 DVD Decoder
ee00-eeff : ESS Technology ES1978 Maestro 2E
fe00-fe3f : Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 ACPI
fe60-fe7f : Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 ACPI
ff80-ff9f : Toshiba America Info Systems FIR Port
ffe0-ffff : Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 USB

So I would guess that your modem has two inport regions too.
One for the serial device, and one for the "out-of-band"
special stuff for the winmodem.

Incidentally, the above IS reflecting the hardware spec (for me), but
pcmcia cards are bridged into pci, so anything could happen.
What you should look for is a conflict. Is IRQ3 taken by another
device? Check using /proc/interrupts. If so (and it is likely to be
taken by the pcmcia controller if it is free :-). you will have to use
a different IRQ for the card. Use the pcmcia config file to exclude or
include certain possibles ...

.. and pass the feedback to the writers of the test driver. They WILL
be able to help you. Whether they want to is another matter! You should
give them all the technical data you can when you write, in order to
make it plain that you are capable of maintianing a conversation at
a technical level.

Big deal. You might want to make a mair of null files there to stop it
whining.

If they are in /etc/passwd, then it must read and wee them! There is
no other list of users.

Look .. what's your problem with editing the passwd file???? It's
perfectly simple!

Try to start the machine in single-user mode (at LILO: type linux 1),
then check the gdm.pid, eventually delete the pid if it's a 'stale'
pid file.

I'm trying to configure my apache server on Redhat 6.2 with apache
1.3.14 to access users "public_html" directories.

In one user directory I created the directory with an "index.html"
file I set the permissions to all read for the "public_html" directory
and "index.html".

In /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf I have

UserDir public_html

and I uncommented the lines:

<Directory /home/*/public_html>
        AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit
        Options MultiViews Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch IncludesNoExed
        <Limit GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND>
                Order allow, deny
                Allow from all
</Limit PUT DELETE PROPPATCH MKCOL COPY MOVE LOCK UNLOCK>
                Order deny, allow
                Deny from all
        <Limit>
</Directory>

Whenever I try to access the user page I get a forbidden error.

What am I doing wrong?

That's possible, however, you can try using something like
Partition Magic, Parted or other similar partition utility.

Yes, I did. Since I didn't have any kind of other tools, I simply
low-level-reformatted the disk using the machine's bios.

Try to compile the correct SCSI module for your SCSI adapter, if
you don't have a 'real' adapter (the SCSI card that came with the
Zip disk is quite dumb) maybe is a good idea to buy a real
SCSI card.

That means that your kernel is unable to detect any SCSI device.

No it's not.
FAT just doesn;t have uid and gid bits, so while mounting such an FS,
these bits are faked. The entire partition has the same UID, GID and access
bits.

Yes, you have no access to do this.
As root you'd be able to do this though.

Odd, with this umask, I'd expect you to be able to write to it.

That's one option, but if you want it mounted automatically, use the
uid=USERNAME and/or gid=USERGROUP options.

`man mount` has more specific info.

You might like to check the apache error log and see whether or not it has a
more descriptive error in it, such as indexing is banned for this directory or
something like that (although you do have indexing enabled). Other things to
check out include making sure that you have restarted the WWW server after
making the change, and is it possible for the user which is running WWW (most
likely nobody) that it is able to enter the directory which is the parent to
the public_html directory.

In other words, make sure that the users directory in the /home directory is
readable or accessible for "nobody" to be able to get to the public_html
directory.

The apache newsgroup followers might also be able to provide some other
solutions, but I would first check the error log then your permissions on the
preceeding directory to make sure everything is correct.

See ya

booting that sector from floppy?
Maybe just a location problem? Is your disk over 1024 cylinders?
then replace "linear" in the lilo.conf file with "lba32"

?
Windows has no clue on how it was booted.
Whether through LILO or through a DOS bootloader in the MBR.
Eventually the NT loader is called anyway, which takes care of booting NT.

But it's up to you.

If you're unsure, post it here, (together with the output form `fdisk -l
/dev/hd[a-z]`

It's in the MBR.
That's not part of any filesystem, so you will not find it indeed.

Look in a file called grub.conf (Just a guess, I use lilo) It's probably in
/etc
That is probably configured to write code to the MBR.

Anyway, just make a linux bootfloppy (mkbootdisk, I guess) and from a
DOS floppy run FDISK.EXE /MBR (WIN2K probably has no fdisk.exe)

As well as the correct kernel support for your card, you'll need to
compile in SCSI disk support, the ZIP drive doesn't need generic SCSI
support.

Hello,

I use debian 2.2 and upgraded my kernel successfully to version 2.4.3.
Everything works fine, including sound and tv. But after rebooting fsck

I fix this error?

for kernel 2.3 I had to add an entry in /etc/fstab in order to use

When I purchased a new 30 Gig HD I had a similar problem. I tried fdisk
under Doze to partition the new HD, but it just didn't work. Whining
about no such device or so. Then I tried it with linux fdisk, which
worked with no complaints. Then I booted back to doze and formatted the
new partitions.

so give linux a try, it is possible that it works better than Doze fdisk.
