I am a relative newbie (been working with Linux for a week or so), but
doing reasonably well, IMNSHO. I installed Slackware, ugraded XFree from
3.3.6 to 4.0.3, upgraded KDE to 2.1.1, messed this upgrade up, repaired it,
etc, all without having to resort to having to ask others for assistance.
However, now I am sort of stumped...
I am running Linux on the following system:
AMD Duron 750@866 MHz
256 MB PC133 mem
VIA KT133A motherboard (sound etc rturned off)
GForce2 MX 32 MB
SB Live! Value
2x Realtek 8139 based network card
NCR 810 SCSI card
IDE0: master= Maxtor 27 GB ATA66
IDE1: master= Pioneer DVD player ATA33
SCSI: TEAC R55S writer + Pioneer 36x CD player
Logitech Trackman Marble (PS/2)
I have tried to upgrade to the 2.4 series kernels, since they have better
support for the hardware I have (especially the AGP stuff sounds nice). I
upgraded to the things mentioned in CHANGES, or to newer versions, but I
get the weirdest problems. I realise that I am running my CPU overclocked,
but even returning it to it's original setting doesn't help, nor do I think
that is the problem (it will run heavy tests for over a day without
problems). However, I think my config file making skills are the problem.
So far, I have been able to produce a more or less working kernel, however,
the network cards are not working, and some more stuff seems to be amiss.
Could anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction?
My 'more or less working' config file is attached. I build the kernel using
the following commands:
make mrproper
make menuconfig
make dep
make clean
make bzImage # it seems zImage won't cut it?
make modules
make modules_install
cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/bzimage.244
Then I modify the lilo.conf to point to this. Here is my lilo.conf (the #
lines removed):
