I am setting up my first server at http://www.internetproductions.org .
I have set up the named.conf and httpd.conf files.
I am using a virtualhost name setup and keep getting the following error:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
============================================================================
----
Apache/1.3.12 Server at www.internetproductions.org Port 80

and the url bar shows my ip addy (http://64.219.9.222/) instead of the
domain name.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong??

Thanks in advance!!

Subject: Installing TurboLinux onto a SCSI machine
Date: Sat, 5 May 2001 05:07:39 +0100

Hi,

I am trying to install TurboLinux server 6.0.5 onto a scsi system. The
system has an adaptec 2940 pro controller card, two scis harddisks and a
scsi cdrom. However I have yet to make any progress at all. From the
documentation I understand that the required module for the 2940 is aic7xxx,
which the documentation reports is included on the standard boot.img.
However when it becomes time to mount the cdrom for installation to move to
the second stage, first it reports there being no cdrom and asks me to chose
a driver, I select the corect driver and it instantly reports not being able
to find a cdrom.

How can I get it to load the aic7xxx module so it can see the cdrom? Any
hints at all would be greatfully recieved.

The CD doesn't contain Linux, but you can do a fresh install with it. If
you
want, just pop the CD into the drive, set the CD to be bootable(in BIOS), and
boot to the CD. Then, you can reformat the hard drive, or anything.

Or, you can make the Floppy bootable, by the BIOS, and you should be able to
boot
to the hard drive from the kernel on the floppy

I think u need to find out the chip set come with the USB-IDE case. You
have to select the right components during a kernel re-compile.
I am using 2.4.3...I heard that 2.4.4 might be a little bit better...but
haven't tried.

Finally, I use slackware-current. somewhere between 7.1 and 7.2.

Is it possible to have an Apache 1.3 Webserver with a link that somehow
points to another (Windows) box on a private internal network? I have a
Webcam on that PC and would like to add it to the Webpage w/o actually
connecting the cam to the Linux server...I figure I need some sort of proxy
directive in the httpd.conf file.

I use an AIX system that has two fonts on it,
Erg22.iso1.snf (12x30) and Erg11.iso1.snf (12x15).

I'd like to use the 12x15 font on Linux (it is very clean with clear
distinction between I,i,t,l,and 1.

However, I have never heard of a 'snf' type. Any idea how to convert a
snf?? to a psf font? Or anything that "consolechars" can load.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

There's also a demo version of SUSE Linux which does the same. I found a
copy at a Windows show recently, and I've also seen it on a cover disk.

Do the following

1.install lilo in boot sector of the linux partition instead of MBR

2.boot into linux using a boot disk

3. Run the following from Linux dd if=/dev/hdXX /of=linux.bin bc=512 count=1
It will create a file that has 512Bytes file size with the name linux.bin

4. copy linux.bin to c:\ and edit boot.ini:
put C:\linux.bin="Linux" in boot.ini and then restart. you will see a new
menu option in Windows 2000 boot manager called Linux and when you select it
it will load Linux

i hope i help you

You're M$ box would need to run a web server and has to be reachable
from the
Linux box.

However, most web cam sw that comes with web cams, allows to upload
periodically
pictures via ftp, setting up a ftp server on your Linux box should be no
problem.

Setting up a ftp user for this on your Linux machine would be the
easiest way to
get it running.

Good luck

Did you read "man smb.conf"?

Mine says (samba 2.0.7):

 revalidate (S)

Note that this option only works with "secu
rity=share" and will be ignored if this is not the
              case.

This option controls whether Samba will allow a
previously validated username/password pair to be
used to attach to a share. Thus if you connect to
\\server\share1 then to \\server\share2 it wont
automatically allow the client to request connec
tion to the second share as the same username as
              the first without a password.

If "revalidate" is "True" then the client will be
denied automatic access as the same username.

              Default: revalidate = False

              Example: revalidate = True

Subject: ATI Rage 128+ AGP Installation
Date: Sat, 5 May 2001 03:21:44 -0500

I am having a devil of a job getting X to work on TurboLinux v6.0.2 with an
ATI card. I have installed XFree86 v4.0.2.

The ATI is called:

"Rage 128+ AGP" by its own BIOS at boot up.
"ATI Rage 128 4X AGP 4X" by Windows 2000 server (advanced display
properties).

And, the chipset under W2000 is described as "Rage 128 GL 4X (AGP 4X)".

I have read these descriptions of the installation process by others:

http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/hardware/ati_rage128.html

http://www.yk.rim.or.jp/~ishikawa/how-to-change-X.html

http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.3/ati5.html#5

http://www4.ncsu.edu/~distclai/rage128-howto.html

However, I just get a black screen and an error to the effect "no screen".
Below, is a short extract from the XFree86.0.log (the part that reports the
error):

============================================================================
===============
(--) Assigning device section with no busID to primary device
(EE) No devices detected.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
============================================================================
=================

As a newcomer to Linux I don't know what this means and am frankly stumped
about what the problem is. I would appreciate any help some of the more
experienced users here could provide. If anyone uses this particular card
and would like to send me their /etc/x11/XF86Config I would appreciate that
as well. Note that this "+" model is apparently detected differently from
the earlier Rage cards.

Many thanks.

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Aaron Kaase)
Subject: Wanted: Simple FTP/HTTP server with Samba
Date: Sat, 05 May 2001 10:47:25 GMT

My mission:
Take an old AMD K6/200 MHz box with two 6 gig drives and make a kick
ass web and file server with it, and be able to access it with my
Win2k system using SaMBa.

Linux knowledge:
None. I need help finding a distro suitable for me, and doesn't
require a rocket science degree to install.

What I want:
A lean and mean FTP and Web server, with tons of space for storing
files to be served via FTP and HTTP. Commands like ping, tracroute,
finger are nice, as well as pico to edit files.

What I don't want: XFree86, Netscape, or any bloat that does not
belong on a server. I want to stick with the command line!

What I've tried:

1. FreeBSD. Not Linux, very terse and uncomfortable to use. I did like
how it installed itself off of a floppy, then went out on the internet
to complete the installation, that was slick.

2. Slackware - I would have installed this, but it didn't have the
network installation that FreeBSD had.

2. Linux-Mandrake. I broke down and made two discs of it. Very easy to
install and use but couldn't figure out how NOT to install XFree86
with it. It's too graphical, and makes me suspicious that things are
happening that I don't want to happen. My last install where I
installed as little as I could got completely botched. I don't think
this distro is suitable for installing as a server.

3. Red Hat - Almost three years ago, back when it was 5.2. Very rough
install, full of problems. I've been scared of it since. Maybe I
should try it again.

Also, how on earth should I partition my hard drives? Linux works with
multiple partitions, I have no idea the best way to allocate them.

I figure a 128MB swap is plenty, but then where should the rest of the
space go? There's /, /var, /home, etc. Remember all I want is a Web
and FTP server.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
