Not really a valid argument, if 90% of the users out there are using Red
Hat.

Just because rpm is there doesn't tie you to it.  It just makes life easier
in some respects.

I would agree with the school of thought to use what you are used to.  So
what if Slackware isn't based on GLIBC?  Slackware is easy to use, and
stable.  The major thing you want to watch out for is that the distribution
you pick is kernel 2.2.x ready.  It will make your life easier.
