For kernel internal threading there is Rusty's Locking-howto. For application
space Im not sure. I dont tend to do app space. And for a general grounding
in SMP and caching issues on modern machines at the OS/hardware level you want
to borrow a copy of Schimmel 'Unix Systems For Modern Architectures'
Folks writing performance critical appps may well find it interesting too
